I never could understand how anyone could think that an object, no matter how large, could actually effect interaction with people and environment here on Earth.

I believe it was on an episode of Believe it or Not that showed that more people are born with red hair when Mars is at its closest to Earth; this was an old episode, with the original host, not the Superman guy.

And the moon has no effect on people? HA! Crime rates change depending on the moon's phase. There was medical proof that when the moon is full and closest to Earth it does affect moods and emotions.

I've been under the impression that many modern sciences derive from older 'pseudo sciences'... chemistry from alchemy, physcology from astrology... ancient/older civilizations studied events in their pasts and present to find patterns, and common threads between those events. It isn't as if they woke up one day and said "Hey, let's tell everybody the stars control us... yeah!"

I'm just going to address my position on this subject in my blog which is going to be dedicated to all the things that piss me off.

And it's a free for all. Any thing that pisses anybody off is going to have a place in my blog. The requirement is only that what is said has to be as humorous as you can possibly make it. According to your own sense of humor, of course.

Oh, and profanity is allowed! Just not of the drunken sailor variety...

It really isn't a planet. Sedna has not been recognized by the IAU (Internetaion Astronomical Union) as a planet. Once they do decide on a definition for planet, however, our Solor System will either drop to 8 planets, or jump to over a dozen.

It's only 3/4 the size of Pluto. Pluto may not even be considered a planet any more.

Why shouldn't the church have someone on the board? What other orginization can afford to send its key personal to learn at the top universities around the world for their entire working life?

The only real influence other planets could have is gravity.

Earth's gravity acceleration = 9.81 ms^-2

The closest planet is Mars. We'll take the closest distance between Mars and Earth.

s = rmars - rearth = 0,2278*10^12 - 0,1496*10^12

F = G * mobject * mmars / s^2
a = F / mobject

a = G * mmars / s^2 = 6,672*10^-11 * 0,642*10^24 / (0,2278*10^12 - 0,1496*10^12)^2 = 7,0045*10^-9

Now let's determine the gravitational influence of the sun:

a = G * msun / r^2 = 6,672*10^-11 *1,989*10^30 / (0,1496*10^12)^2 = 5,9296 * 10^-3

The sun's influence is a factor 5,9296 * 10^-3/7,0045*10^-9 = 846546 larger than the influence of the most nearby planet. The influence of the earth is a factor 9,81/7,0045*10^-9 = 1400528232 larger than the influence of the most nearby planet.

You don't expect me to believe a planet as far as away and as light as Sedna influences anything at all. I'm with cmdrkeenkid against astrology.
