L.A. stages a massive quake drill 11

www.sfgate.com

Southern Californians dropped to the ground, covered their heads and held onto the furniture Thursday for a mock "Big One" — an earthquake drill billed as the largest in U.S. history and aimed at testing everyone from state leaders to students who donned fake blood to play victim.

"At exactly 10 a.m., television news programs announced there was an earthquake disaster drill, then cut to cameras in school classrooms showing children ducking under their desks and holding onto them. A full day of mock post-earthquake exercises such as rescues, emergency medical care and news conferences was planned."

Could the a substantial earthquake actually be in the near future? Would it be possible for some gov officials and scientists to actually know a large quake is on the way. I'm always fearful when "mock" drills are set up.

Mmmm.......I think our next big devastating quake may very well be at New Madrid, from which I live about 150 miles
We're about 50 years overdue.

But, San Andreas may well go off. Didn't webbots get predictive language which saw a large quake in the pacific northwest this December? I think that's still along the San Andreas faultline.

I was just out walking around, and I see police zooming every which way, helicopters flying, little processing stations and quarantine areas set up in local parks, etc.

If I was a paranoid guy, I'd say this looked suspiciously like a drill for the rapid deployment of forces and implementation of martial law under the iron boot of the NWO. Yeah, "earthquakes." Tell me another one!

This forum is full of paranoid people and frankly I'm sick of them. Every thing is "they" are planning something. Give me a break.

The fear of the big one is part of the reason I moved out of Cali. I was in the bay and we had a couple good shakes and I told wifey were out of here.

I was in Santa Cruz when the Loma Prieta quake of 89' went down...

Man, was that wild...I swear I saw the ground rolling (like a small wave) right through the living room - multiple times...!

That my friend was a quake...and I'm sure it's nothing compared to what is to come and what has occurred in the past...

No, the Northridge '94 quake was a quake! I especially love how they downgraded the initial reports of between 8.3 to 8.9 down to a 6.7. Sorry, you don't have that much of an error when several seismograph labs all report in the 8s. FEMA is financially obligated to assist fully if a quake is over 7.0. That's why it was downgraded, imo.

I lived only a few miles from ground zero, and it sounded like a bomb went off. It was one of the two most scary experiences in my life. (The other was a very bad '___' trip.) Everything fell, and you couldn't hear anything fall because it was so loud. And watching the ground ripple all day long from the aftershocks was no party either.

Honestly the 'Big One' is pretty much expected to happen soon. 'It's about that time'.

Another scary thought is that the San Andreas Fault Line is (I think?) connected to the Long Valley Caldera (a super volcano)!
