Philips develops "intelligent pill"

www.newsdaily.com

Dutch group Philips has developed an "intelligent pill" that contains a microprocessor, battery, wireless radio, pump and a drug reservoir to release medication in a specific area in the body.

Philips, one of the world's biggest hospital equipment makers, said Tuesday that the "iPill" capsule, measures acidity with a sensor to determine its location in the gut, and can then release drugs where they are needed.

This is amazing.

I wonder if there are those of you out there who find this a bit troublesome too though? Tiny little computers being placed into our bodies.

When I first read this I thought to myself that it sounded like the beginnings of the famous "alien implants".

It is fascinating stuff though.

Ah dammit! I thought I was going to become a genius.

Haha, very interesting. Reminds me of what will happen when nanotechnology is used like this.

I took it that way at first too.

Pretty "intelligent" either way though.

Cool. New delivery system. Wonder how much one capsule will cost though. In most cases it will be an over-kill, so i think we will not see it implemented soon. It needs to be profit-worhty to be mass produced. Since it is not blood vessels faring robot , i also would not worry too much about its "big brother" potential. It will just make few drugs more efficient and few problems more treatable.
Edit: Bed Inglish.
