too many problems

ok so ive been thinking about the state of poverty and over population and such, so ive decided to crunch a few numbers. there is what, 7 billion people in this world? maybe a little less? ok, so we have 7 billion people and 40.1 trillion dollars (according to this answers.google.com...) so, my idea was to take all the worlds money and to divide it equally throughout everyone. so, 40 100 000 000 000 divided by 7 000 000 000 (40 100 divided by 7 to make it easy) if you do that on a calulator, you get less the 6000. that means that there will be less then 6000$ for everyone in the world. that means that we either have too many people, or not enough money. or we could just lower the price on everything. but, i think the problem is too many people.

well you are thinking that 6000 dollars isnt enough. thats the problem with being American. 6000 in Africa feeds a tribe for a year or more. 6000$ is alot of money. you have to understand not everyone even has or needs that 6000$ and the 5% of the population has 95% of the money. so either way its a lot less.

which goes to the disinflation. the africans have the right idea, they grow everything they need. we dont need 6000 worth of stuff, we can get by on plenty less. like you say, the africans (or any country in poverty for that matter) get maybe 5$ a week? if we increase that to 10$ a week and get the entire world living like that, then 6000 each would make us all rich.

OK I AM SAYING THINGS WRONG AND PUTTING MYSELF IN A PIT THAT I PROBABLY CANT GET MYSELF OUT OF. imagine if a poor, poverty stricken person suddenly got 6000. i bet the first thing that they would do is move to a bigger city. if they were in a bigger city, then things would cost more. if things cost more, then they would get less then they expected. they would have been better off if they stayed in theyre poor village. i am saying that the world is a *Snip* up place. IMAGINE if we all had that 6000. then imagine that everyone had a farm and could grow their own food. IMAGINE that if everyone was self sufficiant, then we wouldnt need that 6000 at all. technology has doomed us.

no it hasn't. technology saves lives. technology gave you this fancy computer to talk to everyone to. technology is a savior not a devil. second of all the first thing a 3rd world country person would do is use the 6000 dollars to feed himself and family. he would buy clothes and a shelter.

the reason we don't have as many wars as we did in medieval times is because we are not self sufficient. self sufficient means you can provide for yourself and family. but human nature is greedy so you attack your neighbors farm to get more.

because we rely on each other we try to be nice to each other. for each others benefit.

I am an orthodontist right now and I can get barely get a kid these days to even wear his rubber bands for a month. Their parents come in complaining about how it is such an ordeal and how everything is too expensive and why cant the goverment (Medi-Cal) just pay for their kids braces while at the same time they drive off in a new Escalade talking on thier Iphone.

well i am not very good at math, but i have one for you also. the bailout for 700 billion dollars is to ensure that economy is more stable correct? how many people now live in the US? 305 million and counting right? well how much does 700 billion translate to when divided equally among 305 million? now THAT, my friend, is one hell of a stimulus package for you. why wasn't this done instead? i can't think of a better way to help the economy than to give the consumers ample money to consume WITH. any thoughts on this?

It sounds good at first glance but doesn't do any good. They still have to borrow/steal that in tax dollars. It's like each person taking out a bajillion dollar payday loan.

my thoughts on that is that the 700 billion dollars that were used as a bailout was the biggest robbery from the american people.

1 the government took money they didnt have.
2. the government gave it to companies that failed.
3. by making money out of thin air this makes inflation.
4. they passed a bill that the people are paying for without our approval.

yea, but strictly just idealism thinking, it would seem like a good one. but at least i would be getting my tax dollars back if i paid in like this, i think that even the american consumer would do better with this 700 billion than those companies will.

Well, based on my observations about Africa the lifestyles of different classes people would go like this:

- There are the farmers, which comprises most of the people. These people spend ridiculously little money, maybe few hundred dollars a year. But they are really growing their own food and self-sufficient at least during good times. They can also rely on tribal communities to get along. Actually their lifestyle might be very close to what survivalists are planning to do after the next world war.

- However, there is not enough land for everyone. So there is another huge group of people living in urban slums. They are still living with ridiculously little money of few hundred dollars a year, but are not able to grow their own food. Actually I don't understand at all how these people survive at all. Obviously third world slums are a huge problem now and in the future.

- Then there is the smaller class of westernized middle classa and rich people. These people live pretty much like we do in the industrialized country, maybe make less money since the price level in Africa is a lot lower...

What really irritates me in discussions about overpopulation is this claim that "Africa is overpopulated" I hear in every discussion.

If you check the statistics then the population levels in Africa are similar to Europe, but the continent is HUGE when compared with Europe. A little glance at population densities will tell you that Europe and Asia are the overpopulated places, not Africa. India and China have a larger population than all of Africa, but compare the area those countries to the huge continent...

I don't bother to check the statistics just for this response. Maybe I will start a separate thread about this. I am just heavily irritated that there is so much uninformed discussion about Africa everywhere.

yea how did this end up in africa? i thought we were saying how over populated the world was and that there wasnt enough money to go around and we needed to learn to lead a more simplistic lifestyle....

If you major in journalism (like I did)... you will realize that there are only 300 million people in the world.

For Example... A bomb went off in Pakistan killing 2 Americans and 78 people.

(they aren't as bad as they use to be, but American lives in the mainstream American Media are superior to the other stuff outside of the Great land.... We are the Greatest Country in the World!!!!)

Population = 300 million

Restof the world... Who cares about them? We're Americans!!!! Are lives are more important.

and that way of thinking is a problem within itself. isnt everyone supposed to be equal??

africa IS overpopulated for their resources. the country is all but used up. there is not enough viable farmland or even dringking water to support the amount of people in a lot of regions. people are having wars over soil which will actually grow something, or water that has fish in it still so they can eat. geesh...maybe YOU should do more research sir. virtually all of the killing in that country is done for land that will provide something to help them live, so yes, africa IS overpopulated. don't be so dense. i see that you are new so i'm sorry if this seems harsh, but that kind of base statement just won't cut it here.

That's pretty much most 3rd world people can do, sadly. It's almost impossible to live your dreams in 3rd world.

You can't work in a high tech lab in the hopes of changing the world even if you are one of the brightest and have the right mind to do it.

People who are at the top sometimes aren't in their right minds because they never knew poverty intimately which most people in the world is. So they make 'bigger and better' things instead of more efficient things and save the environment and economy.
