Secret Order Lets U.S. Raid Al Qaeda in Many Countries

www.nytimes.com

These military raids, typically carried out by Special Operations forces, were authorized by a classified order that Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld signed in the spring of 2004 with the approval of President Bush, the officials said. The secret order gave the military new authority to attack the Qaeda terrorist network anywhere in the world, and a more sweeping mandate to conduct operations in countries not at war with the United States.

Is this secret order only used to attack the Qaeda Terrorist Network?
Anywhere in the world?
Could this start wars?

Can the Navy Seals attack anyone deemed "militant"?
Even in the U.S.?

I never heard of Task Force 88 before, have you?

I really don't have anything more to say, other than I am not suprised.

TF 88 is made up of augmentees from various special operations communities such as DEVGRU(Seal Team 6), SAS, SF and D Boys, maybe some knob turners and door kickers as well and so on and so on. As for your question about chasing the bad guys into countries its not supposed to well thats a simple "we can neither confirm nor deny" Im sure we all know that phrase all too well..Hope I answered some tidbits for you..

It's funny they'd use 88, seeing as how Neo-Nazi's love the number.

The eighth letter of the alphabet is "H." Eight two times signifies "HH, " shorthand for the Nazi greeting, "Heil Hitler." 88 is often found on hate group flyers, in both the greetings and closing comments of letters written by neo-Nazis, and in e-mail addresses.

Could this start wars? Of course, but it depends on who they're taking out. Plus the teams that would do this, I would think, would not only be of the highest caliber. But also be most likely untouchable, you knwo steathy and precise like a Ninja.

I think the question of 'could this start wars' is irrelevant since we have been doing this since 2004. I would say that the better question would be on 'who's authority' did we come up with this secret order to go ahead and attack people in foreign 'soveirgn' countries? Seriously, this is yet another typical move by this administration.

I'm not saying that we can't defend our country. I am saying that it is wrong to think that we are the world police and have the authority to go anywhere at any time that we feel and blow things up. Pretty damn arrogant if you ask me.

Also, for those of you that will say "But we're the god damn United States of America!" Well, other great nations have fallen for exactly this same reason. Do you think we're immune to such things?

Nothing new here. After 911 the world was put on notice: "you are either with us or against us in the WOT. If you knowingly harbor terrorists, we will come after you".

Why is this news now? This is old.

From what I've read and seen on this mornings news shows it was Don Rumsfield, the greatest orator of our time, who signed off on this with the approval of Bush and others.

Jesus H . . . all I can think right now is taht we're allocating so much resources and efforts to 'save the world' from this little rat of a human being and we're throwing a good chunk of people here to the wolves . . .

We've got the technology to pick flycrap out of pepper from outer space, but in all the years we've been trying to pick off this grub, we can't??????

Seems like the ultimate cantcha dontcha as in . . . Cantcha catch this arsehole, or dontcha wanna?

Some signed something somewhere that allows 'secret raids' wherever they 'think' this grub might be smacks to me as just another convenient place to throw off a few more bombs, shoot off some more bullets and lob in a few more grenades so that we can buy a few more from our buddies at inflated prices to lube up their bank acounts while the real people of our country watch their savings swirl the bowl.

Anyone ever seen the flick Hunting Party????

Damn I'm angry.

Not to be argumentative we have been doing this since the 1950's.

It wasn't until the 'War on Terrorism" though that the American people just 'went along' with it. Before that it was top secret, and only 'club members' knew the real extent of it. Hell, why do you think they invented the CIA?

Wow shades of Cambodia, Laos etc. It amazes me that the neocons for all of thier "education credentials" have failed to pay attention to 1000's of years of history. These types of insurgencies cannot be fought in this manner unless you are willing to wage a genocidal war. :shk:

You can dig as deep as you want to dig ,and you won't find anything accurate period . Wise up ,and stop believing you will find out about things that really don't concern you ,unless you are directly involved ,especially with Military Operations .

Interesting find, but it’s not really breaking news.

I think in relation to your questions this is not just targeting Al’Qa’Ida but other violent Islamic groups who may be “linked” with Al’Qa’Ida or pose a threat to US national security. We know for example SF units have been operationally active alongside SAD operatives in Pakistan for quite some time hunting the Taliban. There have also been news reports of SF actions in Yemen, this is probably directly targeting Al’Qa’Ida groups. They have also been active in Somalia ageist a group called Al Shabaab. In fact any state were you hear about military strikes that the US does not have official involvement with it is highly likely that SF are in country directing the attacks and conducting intelligence gathering.

The Navy Seals or any tire one or two SF unit cannot really justifiably conduct CT operations against domestic terrorist targets that tend to fall within the jurisdiction of FBI HRT. I suppose there is some law that would allow military involvement but for the individual militant i don’t think they would have to bring it in to force.

From what I understand, and i could be wrong but i think TF88 is TF145 under a new name, they were responsible for conducting operations in Iraq. There is another task force that operates in Afghanistan, I can remember the name of it. Anyway these taskforces are more of a geographical command structure therefore i would imagine that TF88 is not directly responsible for these operations but rather its units working under it (with the exemption of TF knight). So for example Delta might be have a unit form TF88 that is seconded to conduct CT operations in Yemen however they are being planned and commanded by CENTCOM. To further complicate this it might also be that TF88 is also conducting operations in Iran or the Afghan TF is operating in Pakistan. Like somebody else hinted at you will never be able to get accurate specifics.

Hope that helps sorry if the last bit is a bit confusing.
