Afghan Heroin.....Uncle Sam's latest craze

www.nytimes.com

Since the US led invasion of Afghanistan in October 2001, the Golden Crescent opium trade has soared. According to the US media, this lucrative contraband is protected by Osama, the Taliban, not to mention, of course, the regional warlords, in defiance of the "international community".

In August 2004, in a hotel room overlooking the Persian Gulf, an Afghan mujahedeen commander met with two Americans to talk about the Taliban, the heroin trade and the possibility of helping the United States.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, here is Uncle Sam's newest favorite drug. Heroin. No, not heroin from our neighbors to the south, no not heroin from Southeast Asia, this heroin, originates from Afghanistan.

Since our invasion of Afghanistan, which took place on October 7, 2001, we have spent many of our resources there. However, some of those "resources" have come full circle, and wound up back here in the homeland.

The majority of the masses were on the heels of our latest invasion, backing our troops with love and support. We were told there was a "terror threat" that needed to be addressed and that immediate action was necessary. We soon stormed into the desert. This is where it all begins.

In the wake of the 2001 US bombing of Afghanistan, the British government of Tony Blair was entrusted by the G-8 Group of leading industrial nations to carry out a drug eradication program, which would, in theory, allow Afghan farmers to switch out of poppy cultivation into alternative crops. The British were working out of Kabul in close liaison with the US DEA's "Operation Containment".

This really worked, it provided the perfect cover. Looking at the numbers, it allowed opium production to completely skyrocket.

In 2001, Taliban production of opium was at 185 tons, however, merely one year later, under a new government, and also with the forces of the most-powerful military breathing down their necks, opium production somehow exploded to 3,400 tons, 18 times where it was a year before. Let's put that into perspective. If the DJI (Dow Jones Industrial) were to rise roughly 18 times it's current amount, we would see numbers around
160,000.

In early 2002, The Independent reported, "Despite promises to crack down on the drugs trade, the new Afghan government has evicted the main drug control agency from its headquarters in Kabul and taken its vehicles. They literally threw us into the street," said Mir Najibullah Shams, the Secretary-General of the State High Commission for Drug Control. "I don't have a phone to call up commanders in the provinces. They didn't even leave us with a bicycle."

If Afghanistan is to be made into a brainchild of America, and had democracy installed and whatnot. Why would the "new" Afghan government be evicting a drug control agency? Let's keep that in mind.

A Saudi newspaper, Al-Watan reported: "Karzai has been a Central Intelligence Agency covert operator since the 1980s. He collaborated with the CIA in funneling U.S. aid to the Taliban as of 1994 when the Americans had secretly and through the Pakistanis [specifically the ISI] supported the Taliban's assumption of power."

Why would we sit back and watch the Taliban strengthen? Not only that, but on top of that, why would an alleged CIA operative be appoint intern President of the "new" Afghani government? The same CIA that assisted in the importing of drugs in the 1980's under President Reagan.

In April of this year the Middle Eastern Times reported: "Afghanistan’s annual opium crop is expected to rival last year’s record yield to exceed a staggering 8,000 metric tons, or more than 90 percent of global production, according to a U.N. survey released in February."

So how does the CIA, or any other agency benefit from this?

First off, revenues generated by this whole ordeal, estimated by the U.N. reach amounts of half a trillion dollars. If those numbers hold true, that would put this near the top of money-making opportunities, only behind oil and the arms trade.

Call this the latest conspiracy, or whatever you like, however, the numbers are there. They are simply undeniable. May just be me, but it looks like our higher ups have yet again had a hidden agenda, masking private intentions. Shoot up while you can, this war can't last forever.
