Now, new files released from Broadmoor high security hospital will provide tantalising new evidence that could finally help to solve Britain's most notorious unsolved murder case.

Among the patients whose files are to be disclosed, as the psychiatric hospital opens its archives to public view for the first time, is Thomas Hayne Cutbush, who was identified at the time as a leading suspect in the killing and mutilation of at least 11 women in the East End of London between 1888 and 1891.

Finally there might be a conclusion to one of the most notorious mysteries.

Only thing I ever saw on this was a documentary saying they believed it was a Dr. can't remember the name though. Something about professional incisions or something.

This is certainly a historic case, and I found an interesting webpage with information about Thomas Hayne Cutbush (and other supects of the murders). It seems that onn 13th February 1894 The Sun Newspaper began a series of articles about Cutbush, even though they did not name him.

Cutbush was also a nephew of Superintendent Charles Henry Cutbush, who was responsible for supplies and pay at Scotland Yard. In 1896 Superintendent Cutbush shot himself in the head in his own kitchen in the presence of his daughter...

I though Bill Hicks solved this case a long time ago
"Let me get this straight... You keep the #ty food and the #ty weather and we get the Great Barrier Reef and lobsters the size of canoes? ...I'm Jack the Ripper! --No, I'M Jack the Ripper!"

This would be a great story if it does prove that the man mentioned was, or is, in fact the Ripper. It would finally put a face on one of the most enduring mysteries in the annals of criminology. But then again, people before were sure that they had the right "suspect" as well. I would like to think that this would be "THE FINAL SOLUTION" to the Jack The Ripper mystery.

It won't prove anything, though. All it can do is make one person more likely a candidate than the others.

Everything you would ever need to know about Jack The Ripper is featured in this article.
www.mara.org.uk...

You can see that the author mentions Cutbush as the Ripper but a top detective dismissed him as a suspect.
Personally, I don't think we'll ever truly know who old JC really was. . .

I saw a TV doco a few years back that made a compelling case for The Ripper being an American by the name of Francis Tumblety (I think that's how his surname was spelled).

There were certainly a few strong suspects and, personally, I'll enjoy reading up on this dude. Thanks, OP.

yep i saw a programme a while back about some guy who has the most info on old JR, i think he is a policeman in GB, anyway he has tracked some american doctor and reckons it is him....
Dr Francis Tumblety rings a bell but i am not 100% right that was the name.

the murders are meant to have stopped the day he left the country.
i know the other link says it is not Dr Francis Tumblety but you just never know....................

it would be nice too know for FACT just who was JR
i have followed this case since i was a little boy
hopefully they will solve this case SOMEDAY.LOL

I thought the surgeon idea was debunked. Weren't the incisions actually fairly shoddy? I just watched a documentary on this but I can't remember.

Will the Police be sending out an arrest warrant ?

Maybe they should put resources into solving crime.
