Barack Obama To Ask Al Gore To Be Climate Change Czar?

Al gore has done more for climate change than anyone on ATS. He won a Nobel prize. I remember a day when that meant something no matter the political affiliation.

But because we live in a day where left wingers are nutty tree-huggers, Gore is 'clueless'.

I don't deny that Mr. Gore 'pays' for the resources he consumes. We all do (presumably - and with the glaring exception of the corporate citizens of the world).

The problem is this invention of a new 'carbon' currency. In part, this is what he is 'contributing'. He wishes to have the world accept the carbon currency, the simplistic thinking of it being if it is considered an 'expense' polluters will stop taking for granted that resources are 'there for the taking' and otherwise notionally 'infinite'.

In this paradigm, the common man is left with NO such currency. Incidentally, converting the 'carbon' currency into 'real' currency (such as it is) frees up the corporate world to 'share' their new 'tax' burden with the consumer... go figure, we end up paying for their expense... wow, how original. The establishment involved in profiting from these carbon transactions LOVES this idea..., hence here we are.... save the planet - give us more of your money.

I think I am not amused by the notion of a 'carbon tax' - intertwined with a global governance which is nothing more than a facade to hide our profiteering financial institutions... we can never win or even break even in that scenario.

And in the end, we end up paying out what remains of the value of our labor and enterprise to a system that's anything but equitable for ALL mankind AND the planet. I am not here to SERVE the planet. I do not accept that this is the purpose of mankind. That does not suggest I want to proceed with unsustainable resource consumption; but that little paradigm came from the commercial mindset of the leadership who view continuing growth as a measure of their success.

Carbon taxes are not the answer, in the end it is merely a tool to increase revenue flow towards the supply side of the economic spectrum. This thinking is fundamentally flawed.

I will not EVEN foray into the scientific assumptions or the inadequacies of our long term meteorological data. I'll leave that for the paleontologists and eco-specialists.

I voted libertarian. it isn't about politics with me. It is about the fact that his version of "global warming" is a farce and ignores the "inconvenient truths" that would tank the entire theory.

yes, the earth is warming. So is Mars. Why does he seem to completely avoid the connection?

Further, add in the hypocrite factor (have you see how much electricity his home uses), and i totally cannot believe in him.

He should be stripped of that Nobel Prize. The fact that he received it cheapens the hard work and contributions made by other Nobel winners. Folks who actually DID something other than make a fortune (and further their own political agenda) making movies.

If he wants my respect, he needs to talk about how to remove mercury from our water, or the myriad chemicals/medications that we see. Push for true alternative fuels (not corn, which just puts strain on food). And clean his own backyard BEFORE he decides to preach to the rest of us about ours.

My oh my. You make Gore sound like a world renowned researcher who has dedicated the last 25 years of his life to research in the far reaches of the world. He has been nothing more than a messenger of misinformation. How he won the Nobel is still a mystery. Even the Nobel Prize in itself has lost its luster over the past decade or so. Thanks to winners like Gore.

Hey, I have an idea. Lets nominate Sean Penn for the Nobel Peace Prize based on his peace negotions with Syria and Chavez. He is about as qualified for that task as Gore is for Climatology.

envirornmentalists realize GW or CC is too big of an issue NOT to support and have on their side

and now that they made that deal with the deceptive capitalists (who care nothing about the enviornment ....and will use carbon offsets to hypothetically reduce emissions somewhere other than their company)....they are WILLING to believe anything these corporate shills dish out cause now there " enviornmental good intentions".....are attatched at the hip to Climate change.......and they would have to reconcile with themselves that they made a mistake in trusting the purpotrators of this scam (these clever purportators) LEVERAGED the good will of people who care about the enviornement....into....getting them to be the mouthpieces and marketers (cause they know these enviornmental people sure are vocal..) it's almost too funny if it was not true....

snap out of it enviornmentalists before you realize this won't help the enviornment but it will make money for Wall street carbon derivative banksters and the stiffs who peddle this stuff... the founding father would have hung Gore along with Geithner and summer's .....Frank....Dodd....from the trees......and this non-sense/ripoffs we see in the guise of "good for the enviornment" facade is just clever enough to fool the "most people that the gov't knows it can fool most of the time'..........especally when a small handful of corp's own/control the media.....(which tells people what the gov't thinks they can handle from a perspective that protects those in power)

yes the USA is morphing into the soviet union before it collapsed and not wanting to believe this it true...willl not protect you from the pain of the fallout ....

I voted for Obama, because while I was wary of what he wanted to change, I did want change. I wanted a change from an overwhelmingly powerful Executive branch of government, out-of-control spending, and thinly-veiled plans to help those in power while hurting those already in pain.

What I got was indeed change: a stronger Executive branch, more bailouts to increase the national debt ever faster, and more aid for power brokers at the expense of the average American.

I wanted a tighter control on illegal immigration; I got increased social services for illegal aliens and less border enforcement.

I wanted more regulation on those companies that move our jobs overseas, and less regulation on those brave enough to try and stay here. I got worsening unemployment and more bankruptcies.

I wanted more respect for our veterans; I got requirements that they provide their own insurance.

I wanted more focus on new technologies for alternate energy; I got carbon credits which will stifle any new endeavors in the field of energy.

I wanted a cabinet and administration of thinkers and innovators; I gat Hillary, and now Gore?!?

Sorry, Obama. I don't care what color your skin is, nor what your heritage is, nor what church you attend, nor how you decide to abstain from a controversial vote. I care what color your heart is.

Right now, I'd say it's blue: icy cold and unmoved by the pain you should see happening all around you. I'm sorry, truly sorry, that I cast that vote.
