I would just like to mention something here, for any nicoteen addicts. I switched to snus, a tobacco product from Sweden. Superficially it is like dip, but only in the sense that you put it in your mouth. It is pasteurised tobacco, with natural spices and flavorings. It has almost 0 carcinogens, as opposed to dip, and does not make you spit or salivate. They are small pouches, and they taste good (most of them do, some are kinda gross). 1 pouch lasts me for about 2 hours. They come in different strengths. They are completely unnoticeable. Since I started snus, I hardly even smoke a cigar now. Cigarettes I havent gone near for 3 years. Sweden has the highest snus use rate in Europe, and the lowest rate of cancer. There are eucalyptus and spearmint varieties that taste just like gum, and makes your breath smell good.
One of the largest manufacturers - Swedish Match is starting to sell snus here in the US under the general brand (very good snus, manufactured since the 1700's). Malboro and Camel both have a snus now, but it is very bad, and they will not post TSNA levels of the product - avoid them. I switched from nicoteen with cancer, to nicoteen without cancer, and I urge you all to do so too. If you don't have a cigar shop near you that sells snus, you can order it online direct from sweden. thenorthener.com and buysnus.com have both been good to me, and i've never lost anything in the mail. the northener has a box of assorted you can buy, which is 24 can sampler, for about $40. Each can has 24 pouches. If i consume about 4-6 pouches a day, thats a couple of months worth of nicoteen for $40. You can store unopened cans in the freezer, but usually you keep open cans in the fridge keeps it fresh. You can buy dry snus (catch brand) which need not be refridgerated (licorice catch is really good).
I reccommend for a starter, a spearmint perhaps, or roda lacket, or any of the general product line - the wintergreen is awesome.
I hope someone somewhere will try it.

cruzion ...

but that defeats the purpose of people that actually like the habit of smoking ...

Snus is a great alternative, especially if you need high concentrations of nic here and now.

But, I would say atleast 40-50% of people don't only smoke to get nicotine, but also because they enjoy the habit and ritual of smoking as well ...

I wonder if you would be allowed to use them on airplanes?
Might help to chill those nerves on long flights.

I have thought about the snus before, but to be honest with you...I simply have an aversion to having tobacco in my mouth like that. Is it just me? I don't know...but as a smoker I find it hard to satisfy my craving if I am not actually smoking something. Anyone else agree with me? Maybe I will give it a shot, though. I appreciate you providing this information.

I'm with you on that one. I find it hard to satisfy my craving regardless of the method of delivery.
I smoke a pipe and very strong tobacco blends, so that might have something to do with it.

I am thinking of trying a few of these ideas presented in this thread though as I cannot smoke anywhere but in my home or car.

The Northener.com site is gone, but the other site is there. I have no idea what to pick. There are so many options. I like Wintergreen, but not sure. What's the difference between Portioned Snus and Loose Snus? I'm so confused by all of the wonderous non-cancer chew there. But I'd love to give it a go.

Try www.northerner.com... because I have a feeling that the 'r' was left out by mistake.

Don't get loose snus! You get little bits of stuff stuck in your teeth!
They make strong portions, called sterks. I believe General is bringing out an even stronger sterk. The sterks are 15mg nicoteen. Normal snus is 6 - 11 mg.
The difference between normal portion and white portion is that white portion lasts longer, but has slower release rate.
There's a lot of info on this site:
theunloadingzone.blogspot.com...
and it has a 10% off coupon for buysnus.com
I was a heavy smoker - I rolled my own (no filter), using Stokkebyes and Products from D&R tobacco in N.C.
www.cigarettetobacco.com...
Beautifull tobacco - no additives or chemicals, just flue cured tobacco.
But, It's still gonna give you cancer.
That was the reason I switched to snus. At first, I still wanted smokes. Didn't seem right that I wasn't doing what I was used to doing. The taste of the snus, although not unpleasant, wasn't great either, but I persisted. I had 0% nicoteen withdrawl, except the oddness of not doing my ritual. Within 3-4 days, I had forgot about about smoking. All I did was replace one source of nicoteen with another - but with one that is a lot healthier and cheaper and more socially acceptable. My using snus is undetectable to anyone around me. I can use it at college and at work, and in the home - no one is any the wiser.

This website has a list of stores that are selling sedishmatch products (general etc) www.swedishsnus.com...
I would hate for people to order in a $40 + shipping box from Sweden and find they don't like it.
It does take a little getting used to, but I swear, within the week, you wont even notice it is there. After that, it is a case of trying the different flavors and brands, and finding the taste you like. I currently have over 70 tins in my fridge and freezer, lol. As one runs out in my fridge, I just pull one out the freezer.
OK, strong snus, I reccomend the general onyx, the nick and jonny sterk, and the skruf stark, mocca stark mini.
Flavors I really like are the general wintergreen, portion and silver, the roda lacket, the goteborg rape, lucky strike, catch eucalyptus, jackobsons classic, skruf cranberry, 1847 by phillip morris.
The maxi portions seem a bit too big for my mouth.
BTW, you put the portion under your top lip. You could put 2 maxi portions there, and do godfather impressions.

i believe moderate smoking isnt harmful
tobacco is a sacred plant
read the book "the smoking scare debunked" by William Whitby
it's all about mind control...
what you can do to minimize the bad effect is
1- SMOKING ADDICTIVE FREE TOBACCO (AMERICAN SPIRIT OR PUEBLO)
2- USING CELLULOSE TRANSPARENT PAPER (NO METALS IN IT, NOR BENZENE)

THAT'S IT

Did anybody try the snus?
How are the other people doing with the electronic cigs? Are you still using it?

I have not tried the snus yet. My e-cig is still going strong! In fact I have it sitting right next to me. I have to say, though, that it seems cigarettes (or simply tobacco) have something else addictive in them other than nicotine. My cravings are less severe with the e-cig than going without nicotine at all so I can deal with that I suppose. Maybe the snus would yield different results?

Do the e-cigs actually taste like cigs? If so I'm switching up.

Well now you know why they put so many different chemicals into cigarettes!

My e-cig is remarkably very close to a real cigarette. About as close as you can get without actually being a cigarette imo. If you prefer the tobacco or the Marlboro flavor you would want to pick up either a tobacco or Marlboro flavor e-juice (yes, they make a Marlboro flavor).

My family had a little get together over the weekend, and everyone loved the e-cig. The only issue some people had was that the flavor I had loaded was strawberry and they preferred the tobacco flavor of cigarettes. My dad quit smoking maybe 6 months ago, but he still has cravings. He is looking at getting one with 0mg nicotine to act as a sort of pacifier.

Ok i feel i have to reply to this thread (Seeing as it has affected me so much) ?

So I'm 48 years old...Been smoking since i was 12 !!! Now diagnosed with moderate COPD and smoking at least 40 roll-ups a day, And with any thoughts of quitting putting me into a panic attack and immediately having a smoke......Not good.

Further i have just lost my Dad and his funeral is this week !!!
(So this is a very stressful time and definitely not a time to attempt to quit)

However because of this thread i looked into these e-cigs and found nothing but good reviews, So i brought one and received it Thurs eve.......WOW I can't believe how well it works, I really don't miss the smoke.

Occasionally i feel i have forgotten to do something, Like the habits of rolling, lighting, flicking the ash and stubbing the butt out, But that is decreasing. Other than that i don't get any withdrawal feelings.

My family and friends can't believe how well i've done and i think i'll be ordering a few more up for pressies for Xmas.

Just to add i got the mini e-cig and find i use 2 cartridges and need to change the battery once a day ( Just keeping it real as some very optimistic claims are made )

Many thanks

I wonder if they can do this for marijuana? Anyone? Hit the peace pipe in public? Does it smell?

Since first reading this post I ordered a few of the e-cigs.

The day I got it in the mail, I had just opened a pack of camels. I waited for the battery to charge and continued to smoke my regular cigarettes. I had 15 cigarettes left in the pack when the battery was done charging. That was 13 days ago.

2 days ago I gave away that pack of 15 plus the other 4 un opened packs I had.

My wife also has not smoked a real cigarette since then either.

I now have the mini, the dse901, the dse601 pipe and the trogg screw driver. I have 15 different flavors of juice and a few on the way.

In 13 days I have smoked $12 worth of juice and avoided almost 14 packs of cigarettes.

I feel good. I don't miss cigarettes at all. I replaced cigarettes with the e-cig. I am not looking at it as a quit smoking device at all. I look at it as a better smoking device.

This is the type of advancement in technology that was bound to happen. Take the one part of a product that consumers want and remove the other harmful parts.
A true wonder.

If you want to get off cigarettes but continue to enjoy smoking and getting the nicotine, then this is the product.

Man, I'm reading through these posts and these devices seem so tempting. However I seem to have a touch of luddism in regards to them.

Wow! I am glad to see that this thread has had a positive impact on the people who tried this out after reading this information! How is that Trogg Screwdriver? I saw very good things said about it, but I have not ordered one yet.

You know...this is bound to be something that is in the works. However it is probably beyond the abilities of a kitchen chemist to create a liquid that wouldn't harm the integrity of the atomizer.
