I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate President elect Obama. This thread is for all those people who, like myself, who are not from America, but wish to send their congratulations and good wishes to President Obama.

I should also like to say that Senator McCain, who has also done som much public service for your country, fought a good campaign under exceptional circumstances and remains forever a gentleman in my eyes.

Congratulations America, you've done something very special today.

PLEASE NOTE: This is meant to be a genuine goodwill thread. If you just want to bitch about either Obama or McCain or you have nothing positive or constructive to say, then please don't bother posting!

You are correct. America today signed it's own death warrant by electing not only Obama, but a Democratic majority in the House and Senate to back him up. It won't be Obama calling the shots now, it will be Reid and Pelosi and America is royally [snip now compared to the last eight years. Congratulations, indeed. It will be our epitaph.

I look forward to the coming years when I can look back on your post and realize what fear mongering rubbish it was. I'll come back in 3 yearsish and necro all of the fear mongering threads and laugh at you all. Really, your guy lost, get over it. When the Republicans stole the election in 2000 I didn't think the world was going to end.... and it didn't. Thanks to those outside of America for seeing that we've made the right decision and that the years of ignorance are over for a bit......

Now look here, I set up this thread to say congratulations to Obama and also a well done for McCain for fighting a good election. Can we please keep to topic?

If you have no goodwishes or want to spread hatred and nonsense, take it elsewhere. This is for everyone outside the USA who will benifit from what the American people have done today, not a place for bitter closed minded people who wish spread their hatreds.

So, back to the topic, I represent the well wishers from England, UK. Anyone else?

Now that's more like it!

Yes, don't forget to state your country- and Belgium may be tiny, but it produces some mighty fine beers!

Another Belgian chiming in to congratulate the American public with their choice. You have restored my faith in America.

Congratulations to President Obama !

I do feel sorry for the man, he's got a heck of a job ahead, trying to drag the States out of the deep hole the Republicans buried it in the last 8 years.

This will finally do something about the bad way America is seen by the rest of the world.

I would like to ask one thing tho: If you are some neo-con republican and react to this election defeat by stating :"I'm moving to another country" Keep in mind, that most countries in the world are a lot more Liberal then America has ever been. So please, don't move to Belgium. ...We have socialist political parties, healthcare and stuff like that...

From a British expat living in Spain I'd like to add my congratulations to President Obama.

He has inspired the younger generation to actually take an interest in politics again and he managed to convince so many people that their vote really does count. Even my 9 year old son woke up this morning asking the question, "who won?"

Whats special about it?

They had 2 candidates to pick from - 1 an aged, dying, Neo-con and a black socialist (the last thing America needs right now) who (knowing the hate towards blacks in the US) will likely be assassinated..

I'd also like to add my congratulations to President Obama. I tend to lean towards main parties merely being different faces of the same coin, but I'm still pleased that it was Obama.

Anyway... I woke up to find the Super Secret Socialist World Takeover plans in my email this morning with a personally signed copy of a photograph of Obama! I particularly like the part about when we get to kill American children as they sleep and rape the American women! The part where we rob the working males at gunpoint and laugh as we burn piles of American dollars on huge Satanic bonfires looks like it's going to be a good night out too.

I can't believe it's all going to plan!

Lets move forward, not backwards with racail remarks.

Let me tell you-as a white American woman I can remember when I was 12 years old going into a little town store in TN to get a frozen ice with my friend Janice, who was black. The store owner kicked her out.She tried to tell me that she was not allowed in the store but I thought she was joking with me.I didn't understand...I was 12 and I was sick to my stomach.

Last night I watched the counting of the votes and I was sweating because I was so nervous...I refused to believe the votes until I was sure(I remember 2000).Now I feel what M.Obama meant months ago when she said for the first time she felt proud ..at the time I disapproved of her comment, but now I know that was because I didn't understand.

I'm so proud that America finally grew up enough to look beyond race. For the first time in so many years I feel proud again of my country.Barrack will never be as popular as he is right now..he will make mistakes and he will break promises, but him being our 44th president has already done so much for us a a country.

God Bless America...at last,at last
