There is only one "button".

There is only double-click.

[At the risk of seeming redundant...]
I enjoy the glimpses of true solidarity that actually exist on these very boards. Propers due all those responsible. But that's another topic for a hepper audience.

And, as quiet as it's kept, I now better see how it is...and how it is "good," if I may be so...simple.

I'll "flag" you right after you're done "flagging" me.

I have only flagged a couple of my own threads. It isn't something that I like to do.

What is it that keeps you from doing so, KH?

I've got my reasons, however up for revision they may be. But I'm wondering about those of others who don't tend to flag their own material.

I kind of look at it as this: I would rather have ATS decide the merit of my thread. I feel like if it is a good thread, then it will get flags. If I start one and it doesn't get any flags, then obviously I think it is more important than everyone else does, so there is no need to "toot my own horn".

Whenever I see someone post a thread that I really don't care for and they immediately flag themselves, I look down on them for it. I can't help it, I just look at it that way. I don't want other people to do the same to me.

I've never flagged one of my own threads. But I guess if you're just trying to bring attention to it then there's nothing really wrong with that...

Flagged. Two time.

I just think it's a litle ironic that no one has flagged this thread yet.

Litle bit. It was a fun experiment, nevertheless. For me, anyhow.

Hey, I didn't even know that you could flag your own thread! Got to go, have some flagging to do.

You flag my back I'll flag yours............

Thread title asks if you should flag your own thread

Would you flag your own thread ?

Isn't that the same as 'blowing your own trumpet ' ?

And isn't it said, with good reason, that 'self praise is worthless .. is no praise at all' ?

Shouldn't your thread be able to stand of its own merit ?

And if it doesn't, isn't that a pretty good indication that's it's not that hot ?

Would flagging your own thread make it 'better' ?

Really ?

Would I flag my own thread ?

The question itself is an insult to most

No. I would not flag my own thread

Tell them that it's human nature.

True. And as good a start as any.

Would you flag your own thread ?

Are you asking me, now, or are you merely re-wording my thread title? The answer here is obviously "no", if it's the former. And if it's the latter, I'm not sure I can help you.

Isn't that the same as 'blowing your own trumpet ' ?

If you say so... I couldn't have said it better myself. Glad you brought it up. Funny you would bring that up!

And isn't it said, with good reason, that 'self praise is worthless .. is no praise at all' ?

Actually...

Shouldn't your thread be able to stand of its own merit ?

To my delight, the conversation continues. So this thread "stand[s]" on its merit. IMO, of course.

And if it doesn't, isn't that a pretty good indication that's it's not that hot ?

Totally.

Would flagging your own thread make it 'better' ?

Feels like I should be asking you the very same question. My answer is no. If it were, i'd have flagged it long ago. But that was never my intent. Dur. Actually, this was.

Really ?

Memethinks the poster doth protesteth...ah, forget it.

[I wish I were willing to stop this back-and-forth that you so emotively engaged in with me, here, but that would necessitate you having not done just that! sigh...]

Would I flag my own thread ?

Gee. I dunno. Would you? [ho-hum...] [mmbl]bet you won't tell us anything but show us everything[/mmbl]

The question itself is an insult to most

I call MALARKEY!! Who says YOU speak for "most"? On who's [or is it "Who"] authority? And, while we're at it, pshaw.

Oh. Wait. You're actually [cringe]"really", ah, insulted?

Ooh. Sorry.

No. I would not flag my own thread

Put a period on that. And me neither. Not here.

Not now.

I like being able to look at myself in the mirror without cringing in embarrassment and shame

Funny you should bring all that up.

I wouldn't flag my own posts, it seems a bit odd to me, but I have no issue with anyone doing that, after all it's only one flag, it's not like that will actually make any difference.

I have noticed that my own threads sometimes don't show up in "myATS" (and certainly not anywhere else except maybe "recent posts") until they have at least one flag. I don't think me posting a new thread sets off alarms in the Mod lounge or anything, so chances are good that no one will even notice my new thread to decide if it has any merit until it has at least one flag.

One flag is nothing. A thread with only one flag will drop off the face of the Earth (or at least the most-seen pages of ATS) within minutes.

I, therefore, feel that flagging my own threads is merely giving them a fair chance to be seen, and with one measly flag they will still live or die on their own merit. ATS says "flag threads you feel are important or interesting." If I wrote a thread that I didn't think was important or interesting, I would be rather disappointed in myself.

Therefore, yes, I DO flag my own threads and if you have a problem with that, too bad. As someone else has said, you can't star your own posts, so there must be a reason you're allowed to flag your own threads.

Obviously, this thread falls far short of that which is worthy of a flag.

The flag it received was a pity flag.

I wish I could put a star on some of your foreheads.

Thank you all for your input. Especially the one that got mad.

Of course I flag my own threads. If I didn't think it was worthy, I wouldn't have started the thread in the first place.

If I have spent a lot of time and effort doing research, have a lot of good sources and it's a really good thread, you bet I do!
I use the same criteria as I do with others' threads.

Well, I am going to give you a flag too. And it isn't a pity flag either.
So now you have 3 flags.
