Christiania demo under way - denmark

politiken.dk

A demonstration is currently under way from Christiania to the offices of the Palaces and Properties Agency to complain about the demolition of part of a house in Christiania.

There are some 2-300 people in the demonstration, carrying banners reading: "They're demolishing us. Help", and "Keep Christiania".

So far, the demonstration has been peaceful.

Evicted
The demonstration comes following the eviction earlier today of the occupant, and demolition of part of the Vadestedet building. Police closed off Refshalevej road in order to facilitate the demolition.

Oh, we had the same in Hungary in the last two years. Last time on the last week. As you can see rioting against the bastard Zionist government is not a stand alone idea in these days. And there will be quite more riots week by week thanks to the global financial crisis.

Rioting against the zionist government? where's the zionist government? Like in Hungary? Is Hungary the land of Zion?

Sorry I'm a little confused. Is it the zionists or nazis who are to be banished?

One must remember that patriots may be involved in the rioting against those that insist this lot should be banished. It's always worth remembering that patriot is often confusing when compared with the timeline, for example there are similar things in Hungary where so called Patriots called the Magyar see themselves as occupiers of the land when it's actually the case that the Jewish and German inhabitants were there during the time of Jesus and are reaaly the people who have most right to the countries history, not the new comers from central Asia, the Magyars.

after tonights riot, from politiken.dk:

Fifteen people were arrested yesterday evening during unrest in Christiania in which police used teargas to disperse groups of demonstrators.

Large numbers of police officers are patrolling the streets of Christiania this morning, but the area is reported quiet.

Trouble started yesterday after a demonstration against the Palaces and Properties Agency, which had evicted an inhabitant from a house in Christiania and demolished part of a building.

Trouble began in earnest during the evening when a Molotov cocktail, stones and other objects were lobbed at police.

Police used teargas to disperse groups

politiken.dk...

from what i can read, there have been molotov cocktail, tear gas and fire in the streets all night. police is in control now, but it could escalete again.

the strange is: at the same time this is happening, police are changing a "police-reform". police have also problems in getting their job done. after the nørrebro riot last year, and the gang wars in copenhagen lately, they cant get their job done. still they are getting ordered to attack christiania.

if this conntinue, the citizen of copenhagen will experience a almost civil war.

if i find more in english, i will post it

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

I hope you're staying safe? You are in Copenhagen, right? If so, keep your head down...we'd like to know what's going on, but staying unhurt is much more important.

What triggered this? Do you know?

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

Basically it would seem a bunch of illegal squatters were evicted and then attacked the police.

www.denmark.dk...

It's worrying that such people are becoming more prevalent and becoming more aggressive when their attempts to force their minority ideals on the rest of society are curtailed. And even more worrying that other people are so ready to support them - a sad indication of our slow decline in morals and respect for others

The reports don't make it clear whether these squatters were actually Danish nationals or not.

the activist is danish. there have been no time to get support from other scandinavian country or germany.

iam personaly found of christiania, but i do not belive in violence. i have followed this conflict since i moved to denmark (7y). and it havnt always been like this. you can almost put the activist in 2 boxes. those who belive in civil disobedience, like the bridge that was blocked in 2 hours yesterday. but when the sun goes down another type of activist is taking over the street. those who cant stand the police and belive the ones who comand them are corrupt.

i would't just called the people who lived there for "squatters". they have show that it is posssible to make a city based on there own values. it is a intressting place if you have an idea people can do better then the way world is today.

well iam not going to start a debate about if christiania is right or not. it always end up with negative.

anyway: its a big possibility that this will continue. and if its not settled to the weekend, they might ask for support from other countries

sorry bad english. i will keep posting english articles if i find them.
for now i only have this:

Hello all.

I live in Christiania, and just wanna let you know the facts about the eviction. (Pardon if my english isn't correct..)

"Vadestedet", the house the police went after, were by Christiania and the area around the house, given to a 2 young (danish) guys, but this were short time after the SES (who manages old castles e.g.) made everyone living in CA sign a form, who should give us the right for re-housing, if we were to be set out of our homes during the "normalization" --- that is, removing houses next to the lake and so on, because they wanna rebuild the area as it was in 18-i-dont-know (this meaning newly cut lawns, path to walk on and places NOT to sit on a warm afternoon).

Theese 2 guys moved in after all this, SES believes that THEY have the right to manage that no-one can move into Christiania, Christiania do not think that SES can control us, and we of course wanna live and grow as always.
There have been a building-stop for several years now, if anyone tries to make a bigger house-repair it is seen as a huge modification and is forbitten (which in practice means loads of cups tearing it down), as so with people trying to build new houses to let even more come to live here.

About Vadestedet (as the house is called), the guys have build a first floor, to make room for a girlfriend and a baby on the way, this has been removed by the police, leaving all their personal belongings outside where anyone coming by could just pick it up..

This house isn't just the 2 guys', it is a Christiania house, and therefore it hurts us all, and this have caused the big demonstration yesterday at 11 and again at 16. Peaceful and nice actually... but that doesn't make the big types in the papers.. fire does.

I know about the riot, and there is just as many opinions about that as there are citizens in Christiania, so I dont wanna go there

But, this riots isnt just people from here, it seems like there is a group besides politic interest and so on in DK who sees an oportuniy to kick some police-ass...

Regards! And hope my reply gave an idea about the story behind the nightly riots.

what Anonymous ATS is saying is correct. but it also important to keep in mind that one of the first trail about christiania is starting in a few day.
when the trail starts, the judge will most likely forbid police take any action before the trail is done.

why they needed to take action yesterday is they needed to say "remeber who's in charge." i cant find any better reason.

latest: the police broke their personal record how how much tear gas they can use in one conflict. no numbers of granats have been published, but high ranked police back up the info. police's information cheif, Flemming Steen Munch, said:
"in this kind of scenarios, police will always get the blame. but what should we do when hundres of people make troubels?. should we pull back?

when we give warning's about teargas, people have their own responsebility to move away"

sorry bad translation, if anyone want me to keep updating this thread just reply.
