xrays from sticky tape

technology .newscientist.com

Peeling ordinary sticky tape can generate bursts of X-rays intense enough to produce an image of the bones in your fingers.
Seth Putterman and colleagues from the University of California, Los Angeles used a motor to unwind a roll of sticky tape and recorded the electromagnetic emissions. Ripping the tape from its roll at 3 centimetres per second generated X-ray bursts of 15 kiloelectronvolts – each lasting one-billionth of a second, and containing over a million photons.
Putterman admits he is not sure exactly what is going on. "My attitude is to marvel at the phenomenon – all we are doing is peeling tape, and nature sets up a process that gives you nanosecond X-ray bursts."

this is really weird, sounds very "cold fusion" but its very intriguing.
apparently someone predicted this may happen, with sticky tape, over 50 years ago. no it wasnt tesla!

just thought it was diffenatly interesting and very fringe science story, it could be a hoax but its a funny branch of science to try and fake when almost any scientist can try this for himself!

I believe something similar happens when a crystal is fractured.
Perhaps it's relating to the chemical bonds instead.
Static electricity, is along the same lines any other sort of discharge. Any discharge of electricity can generate light and or differing energy.

Now thats just weird...

Wonder if all Blue Peter presenters are now sterile? After all they are the worlds biggest consumer of 'sticky-back plastic', all those years with no protection, no lead panties!

Wonder what else gives off spurious radaiation?psecret.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=404352
