and given that the GOP has a record of corrupting elections, and is working hard right now to do so again

I would not be terribly surprised at significant civil unrest in the case of McCain winning. He has provided no credible evidence that I have seen that he will change the direction of the country. Therefore, if we assume that these "direction of the country" polls are close - and remember this trend predates the election cycle insanity - then a McCain victory could easily be the result of GOP chicanery, or at least could be seen as such.

Americans are largely pissed off at the government these days... the recent bail out is just one piece of it, and pretty much everybody is pissed about that.

You must not forget that the real party in power through both parties is the WAR PARTY, those people who make money from war profits, i.e. Bankers, Wall Street, Industrialists, Big Oil etc. It is the WAR PARTY that will win no matter who gets elected unless all of the American people vote for a third party, it would not be a wasted vote, but a clear message sent to those in power.

O yeah there be race riots no doubt. Obama wins, whites going to riot like they want to lynch him at the WHITE House with no disregard for their own safety. Obama loses, blacks still feel like they are being discriminated, which is true. Either way we all lose.

If Obama wins people will be jumping up and down with joy and shouting from their rooftops, the tyrannical republican rule is over! No more Bush!! Wooooooooooo

If McCain wins it = 4 more years and hope lost for America! There will be a lot of discouraged people out there.

This is actually of more concern to me than possible riots if Obama wins. I really hope he is taking care of his security situation. Given the degree to which BushCo has politicized other supposedly non-political areas of the gov't (such as DOJ), I wonder if the Secret Service has been similarly corrupted by it?

I sincerely hope not. I still have some fantasy that those folks at least are professional enough to have rejected any such attempts if they were made. But how do we know?

maybe unconsciously its this whole election and change propaganda. its permeating our entire society. yesterday, in atlanta, police shut down the cnn center and two other huge arenas were also blocked off 16th st. for 4 hours to practice for unrest. from 8pm to 12am. very strange. i dont think they even did anything like this for the olympics and the whole world came here. interesting.

I don't think there will be "massive" protests or anything. I do think there will be "pockets" of it around the country no matter who wins. Who in the heck would want to be president at this time in our history?

I would agree, if there were guarantees that it wouldn't escalate through the response by the authorities.
It will all be filmed and broadcast, and if there are any instances of perceived further injustice perpetrated against any Americans, the situation will spiral.

Imagine, riot in NY, due to perception that McCain stole election. Police brutality is reported, more numbers join the riot. More Police heavy handedness reported, more people riot against that...

Pretty soon you have other states taking preparatory action, seen by protesters as infringing their rights. More riots.

It is very risky, especially now. But it doesn't mean it will happen. Obama might win. If he doesn't, there might still be no civil unrest.

I don't think McCain is going to win after all the polling done. Heck - even MSNBC said the 7-eleven "cup poll" in their stores shows a big Obama lead.

The only thing I think could happen is a form of raised entitlement of folks who feel that since "my man" won the election, they are now free to do anything they want. It's ignorant, I know, but there will be some form of this in some areas where people think this offers a new form of freedom that they didn't have in the past. The leader has to quash that early. This is the devisiveness that could happen.

naturally, she helps him to win, he pays the mortgage, gas and the cocktails

Frightening though, this is clearly an adult woman in charge of kids who does not appear to be insane, yet she appears on tv and says this- would this form of delusion be common?

Hmm, I'm sure it's not far from the truth. The Bulls win a championship and victory is followed by rioting...........

LOL, hmmm, wonder if ATS members will have to worry about gas and mortgage payments..........

Amazingly, I think you guys are about to elect someone who is actually smart enough to deal not only with potentially disgruntled "losers" in this election, but with the PTB as well. Looking from this outside perspective, I think he was able to use the PTB to fund his election but, with eyes wide open. He knew what he was doing. He appears to maybe be even smarter than them (the PTB). I have a feeling that he will actually be able to maneuver around them once in office to bring about real changes everyone is going to like - every working man, that is.
He is going to be challenged like you won't believe, but he is cool enough, and smart enough to handle it, and you won't have major crisis.
Just my guess.
I have got to congratulate you.
Now, if he doesn't get elected, well, all bets are off and all hell could break loose.

Interesting story...

My personal opinion:

Given that poll after poll, from well before the election cycle got really heated up, all indicate that a very large majority of US citizens are fed up with the direction this country has taken

and given that the GOP has a record of corrupting elections, and is working hard right now to do so again

Americans are largely pissed off at the government these days... the recent bail out is just one piece of it, and pretty much everybody is pissed about that.

Having yet one more stolen election may just be the tipping point.

We do live in interesting times...

The thing I find most hilarious about this election and everyones' "Praise Obama" attitude is that once he's in office, not a damned thing will change. The only thing you will see are more regulations and laws that do not good for any of us. He will most likely immediately attack the 2nd amendment, as his track record clearly shows that he is anti-gun, anti-2nd amendment. All of these candidates that we are force fed are the same. You see it every election. They promise this, promise that, but when it comes time to deliver, they take on the "Insurance Company" persona, and refuse to pay out and live up to those promises. I can't wait until I can say, "I told you so...".
