This topic really took off overnight. I don't see the big fuss over it though. Did you ever stop and think how atheists feel when Christianity is shoved down their throat?

How many of you have ever had a couple of atheists come to your door, with leaflets in tow, spreading the good news about atheism? How many times have you seen atheists raise a big deal about religious advertising ( and it's everywhere )? Why do christians feel so threatened by an advert?

Not once but I do get bombarded by them through my website. Only it's not good news they're spreading- it's usually threats, insults, and other nonsense.

How many times have you seen atheists raise a big deal about religious advertising ( and it's everywhere )?

Hm... I see them raise a big deal about religious everything somewhere just about every single day now.

Why do christians feel so threatened by an advert?

Who says we're threatened? More like amused... and bewildered by the lack of sense, not to mention hypocrisy, this campaign makes.

I feel absolutely no threat whatsoever. I find it amusing that whoever devised the ad decided to use the word "probably."

I am a Christian, I don't think about hell often I don't invite anyone to think about hell either. I am not a fundamentalist creationist. I haven't burnt any witches nor tried to force my religious beliefs down anyone else's throat. I don't think all athiests are evil, I don't think all Christians are good.

I believe this thread is probably being taken to seriously by people who are probably too zealous. Probably anyway.

It really comes down to one thing-

Someone who believes in God for their own reasons which they see as good and logical can't understand why someone else can't see their point some times, and vice versa with atheists.

Another problem though is that a lot of people on both sides of the fence aren't really willing to listen to an alternate idea. Strike that, they may be willing to listen, but no one is on this thread right now considering switching their belief system even if good points are raised.

They are all, however, more than willing to participate and voice their opposing opinions quite loudly sometimes.

because we're in the "end times" and that's what is supposed to happen, Christians are supposed to be singled out based solely on their religion. (um, before someone flames me, I know there have been plenty of religions that have been "singled out" in the past, but I'm talking about the time we live in now. Christianity is the most openly hated "religion" in the world. Christians are being KILLED all over the world TODAY just for trying to teach others about Jesus. Also, before someone who HASN'T READ THE BIBLE comments on this, I suggest you do so - compare what is said with the world we are living in TODAY - and then you can comment, otherwise you are just talking out of ignorance.)

Have a Blessed Day!! ^j^

agreed, the bad thing is "religion" (man-made - spirituality and a personal relationship with God is what it should be) tries to make you "good" out of fear of what is going to happen to you if your bad! An example of what I mean is I want my children to do what is right because it is right, not because they are scared of what will happen if they don't. That kind of action comes from the heart, not the head. So, do what is right because you know it's right, not because your scared if you don't you will go to HELL.....wrong reason..

Ha ha aaah I guess it hasn't occurred to you where I even got the idea to descibe it as Atheism being shoved down my throat. it is just that kind of exaggeration I always found so hilarious and of course I have had Christians do it to me and ya know what happens!

I slam the door in their face and guess what!

They go away

Me? I was water boarded into belief and so far I haven't actually seen any Christians that are "threatened" by it so I don't know where you get that idea. I don't think they care .

the reason atheists single out christians is that they ARE so afraid of us they go owe noes and start ridding around through town in the middle of the night shouting "the atheists are coming the atheists are coming"

[edit on 22/10/08 by noobfun]

Atheists should wish for more Christians to exist. If the world were full of Moslems or Hindus, they would probably kill those atheists.

how in any reality thats mathmatically possible does that work?

if all christians became muslim or hindu?
if christians just vanished?

trust me im sure us poor ole atheists could learn to fight back and we wouldnt even need god on our side,

and your average hindu and muslim (leave your racial sluring out of this please) is as tollerant as your average christian

and guess what its not christianity we would like to free people from but also hinduism islam bhudism sufism judaism animal worship earth worship yes yes every reliegeon there is in the world

just think of that possability murder sectarian violence almost stopping over night

well at least for a couple of days until we invented new reasons to kill each other

*************************

you also missed the most valid point ... sorry forgot the sarcasm tags

WE DO NOT SINGEL OUT CHRISTIANITY NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU WANT TO RUN AROUND PRETENDING YOUR BIENG PERSECUTED SO YOU CAN PRETEND THE BIBLE IS COMMING TRUE WE DONT BELEIVE IN ANY RELIGEOn AS THEY ALL WORK ON THER SAME LIMITING SYSTEM OF BELIEFS AND PRACTICES DISPITE THE FIGURE HEAD AND SPECIFICS OF RITUAL

sorry for the all caps for anyone with any understanding of what atheism is

The only reason you see Christians having thier faith "targeted" is cause most atheists, and most famous atheists are western, where Christianity is the dominant faith. Atheists do not specifically target Christians, read Hitchen's "God is not Great" where he also argues against the beliefs of many eastern religions.

Islam has come under greater attack from Atheists in recent times, the reasons for this are obvious.

What would be a smashing idea noob would be if you managed to quit bunching everyone you disagree with on this issue, and other associated threads, into one group to taunt with your (graciously) inimitable humour.

I am a Christian: I do NOT feel persecuted by you or anyone else, I do NOT feel threatened in the slightest by this ad. I find it, and this, amusing - probably.

I think Atheists have a lot more to worry about with the Moslems. If an atheist says to a Christian, Jesus isn't thye Son of God, the Christian will simply feel sorry for him that he said that, and maybe say so. However, if an atheist says Allah is not god to a Muslim, that Muslim has a duty before his god to kill you right then and there, and that persons family if they can be found, just for saying it. Wheras England is fast becoming a Moslem nation, I think they will make a quick response to what they will see as blasphemy against Allah, unless.... the atheists claim it is only directed at Christians. But then... the truth would get out, wouldn't it.

This is ridiculous! If you look on foxnews.com right now you will see the headline "The Fight To Kill God" as the headline for this subject.

That ticks me off. The media is ridiculous. I'm actually somewhat outraged.

I don't know if you live in the UK but I've heard the line about it becoming a muslim nation so often I feel obliged to point out that it isn't. The UK is a splendid country for all flavours of belief and disbelief, only frowning on those who take it all a bit too seriously.

This bus advert is in fact the perfect manifestation of Britishness. It's like The Church of England, while Anglican Bishop's may be so daringly fundamentalist as to suggest there probably was a Jesus, good British athiests say there probably wasn't.
The only lashings given out in the uk are of ginger beer.

and so does the bible

if i tell a muslim allah isnt god chances are he really wont kill me, he may not be very friendly with me he may start an argument he may walk off in disgust he feel sorry for me

the same responses you can get from many christians just becasue the book he reads says so doesnt mean he does

and i know it makes you feel special to put moslems but really -_-

unles the atheists claim it is only directed at Christians. But then... the truth would get out, wouldn't it.
looks like another owe noes were bing victimised atheists really only hate christians slant
