Lisa Gerrard & Pieter Bourke - The Unfolding

This song is amazing... When I listen to her voice I get the feeling, the one like I've witnessed truth and miracle mixed in with with the greatest happiness ever conceived. About two minutes in it takes hold and holds you in it's arms.

I like a lot of them so, I'll post one that ties into the times.

Check out whippersnapper Paula Cole singing with a guy who's a pretty good singer too.

Diamanda Galás (Live in London)

From wiki

Known for her expert piano as well as her distinctive, operatic voice, which has a three and a half octave range, Galás has been described as "capable of the most unnerving vocal terror"

BTW female signers are my favourite vocalists so I have TONS to add to this thread.

ANYTHING by Morcheeba deserves to be in this thread but here's an example:

To the guys that added Bjork and Hope Sandoval, totally agreeing with you there...

Mimi Parker from Low anyone?

...and perhaps something a little more visceral, the great Jarboe of Swans etc

Of course, there's always Billie HOliday, Ella Fitzgerald and Bessie Smith - anyone for Tori Amos?

Ooooh Ella!

In "How High the Moon" she demonstrates talent that no other person has ever shown since and it's doubtful any will again:

The voice and picture are a little out of sync on that one and the recording is not the greatest (it gets better about halfway through).

A version (5:24) with Duke Ellington (simply amazing):

Here's another 7 minute version (from an album I think) with no footage (good sound quality on this one):

.

edit: and who can forget:

Ella Fitzgerald - Airmail special (solo audio)

and here is a 13 year old girl from Montreal (now 15 I think?) that is up and coming who is said to channel Ella!!

Nikki Yanofsky - Airmail Special

Simply wow!
