How? One guess, they had to pay out on CDS - a lot of them

AIG is basically an insurance company, they insured toxic paper and got a margin call on it

Yeah, thanks to the fraud at moody's and S & P. Idiots slapping a AAA sticker on BBB and calling it good. Who the hell does business like that and expect NOT to ensure a collapse? It's like trying to put a lower price sticker on a higher price item.

Only in reverse.

Ridiculous.

That is pretty much what I figured. Does anyone know exactly what AIG's share is in the CDS Market? .. Being such a massive entity, I would imagine their risk is incredibly high.. $60 billion loss though is nearly as much as we have given them in loans! AIG may end up being Nationalized, or bankrupt as a result of these losses.. they cannot go on indefinitely.

Don't you know? The US Government practices Necromancy.
They can keep the dead alive FOR YEARS.

DOW - 250 AIG at 43 cents a share.

They are done for. We can't keep bailing them out. This also exposes the US Government to a CDS collapse. They're holding this #.

Necromancy LOL...

The Feds will no doubt help AIG in some way.. they won't let it collapse, not this late into the game.. I would hazard a guess as another capital injection, or a Back Stop Insurance agreement like on Citi, to the tune of hundreds of billions. Citi's Back Stop is a method to protect losses from "toxic assets" (cds), if AIG has the same exposure, or greater..............

Anyways, 3.5%+ drop on all major indexes .. with last week, this has been another October/November week long sell off... -245.15

Scusemee. Teacher, you said that c is the hypothenuse that will direct the Dow up after 2 pm, but the hypothenuse on your drawing is labeled with letter a not c.

All right, class. Today we will discuss the most used theorem of them all: the Pythagorian theorem.

The theorem involves three sides of right-angle triangle, and it says that the sum of the squares made of side a and b equals the area of the square made by the hypothenuse c. To make it short, a^2 + b^2 = a^2. Since the last term c^2 is pronounced "see up 2", we will see the Dow going up after 2 pm, because theorems are the building blocks of mathematics and cannot fail.

Oh, yes. My mistake. Sorry about that.
Let's correct the drawing . . .

There . . .
