The Case for Faith is an extremely interesting and suggestive piece of Christian literature written by Lee Strobel. I would like to start a thread for people who have read it and also for people who have not read it. I would suggest that everyone get a copy of this book and read it front to back. You do not necessarily have to be Christian to read this book, but it is a strongly Christian book. Contradictions, errors, concerns? post here!

I've read "The Case for Christ", is The Case for Faith similar?

I thought it was decently written but the arguments made have been kicked around for a long time now. I guess you can't expect much to change, I think about every angle possible has been explored inside and out. Are there any fresh points of view?

I agreed to read it if my one and only Christian friend would read The God Delusion.

If I've already read Dawkins, Harris, Hitchens, Sagan, of course Darwin... I'm looking to read "Infidel" by Ayaan Hirsi Ali. Is the one you linked to any different? I don't think I could be much more of an unbelieving infidel but I could be wrong.

I actually did not read The Case for Christ. Kinda just skipped straight to Faith haha. The Case for Faith brings up 8 highly debated objections:

1. Since Evil and Suffering Exist, a Loving God Cannot
2. Since Miracles Contradict Science, They Cannot Be True
3. Evolution Explains Life, So God Isn't Needed
4. God Isn't Worthy of Worship If He Kills Innocent Children
5. It's Offensive to Claim Jesus Is the Only Way to God
6.A Loving God Would Never Torture People in Hell
7. Church History Is Littered with Oppression and Violence
8. I Still Have Doubts, So I Can't Be a Christian

These are the backbone of the book. And the way its written is he goes around the country to highly qualified professors, Doctors, etc.

Love it...

Imagine altruistic Nietzsche...yes, hard to fathom, but a good read.

Way more offerings if you read the literature yourself - front to back mind you! - bugt don't hope for happiness!

A link would have been nice, and pretty simple too.

Link

But then again a case for faith would really depend on faith in what? The book is Christian and therefore caters to that crowd.

I'm not a Christian but I still have faith, I believe dearly in the creator of us all.

Faith does not live in the dogma of religion, but in the experiences we all share each and every day.

If you can't see God in everything, you can't see God in anything.

Just my thoughts on it,

Love and light,

Thanks for the warning, I won't need to waste my time now. it is a Total Onslaught on GOD as was foretold. They already have a name for Bible Believers, they call them "Christo-Fascists" and the reason is #5 above... We wouldn't want to offend no one, besides Bible believers of course, they don't count.

Last time I checked, no one has seen God/Jesus/whatever for a couple thousand years. I just finished picking my nose and a snot came out, didn't see God there either. I'll keep digging!!!

1. Since Evil and Suffering Exist, a Loving God Cannot

Since we ate of the "tree of knowlege" we are given free will. Nearly all religions talk about a union with god as a goal, implying we must be seperate now, we have a choice though.

2. Since Miracles Contradict Science, They Cannot Be True

Since science is not fully understood does it? the science of today is different from 2000 years ago. Walking on the moon would be ruled out as definetly impossible from a scientific view for most periods of human civilization etc

3. Evolution Explains Life, So God Isn't Needed

What is evoloution other than the giver of life? what causes evolution? what is it that makes things want to live?

4. God Isn't Worthy of Worship If He Kills Innocent Children

Nothing is destroyed only renewed.

5. It's Offensive to Claim Jesus Is the Only Way to God

There is many ways to god.

6.A Loving God Would Never Torture People in Hell

Perhaps the hell is from not having a union with god, so the people torture themselves. There is only a set of circumstances, we therefore have a choice of the emotions.

7. Church History Is Littered with Oppression and Violence

Every doctrine about god is about love, to love everything. Which is more important the doctrines or church history.

8. I Still Have Doubts, So I Can't Be a Christian

True, how can you be in heaven if theres a thought that you might be in hell?

These are the backbone of the book. And the way its written is he goes around the country to highly qualified professors, Doctors, etc.
