suppose you were put in survival mode near a bamboo forest. in north america we have bamboo that maxes out around an inch thick and grows about 8 - 10 feet. what can this be used for? bamboo is the most useful plant in the world but i need help realizing its uses other than the obvious...
build structure, fishing pole, fire starting...

As you have already stated, Bamboo is one of the most versatile plants that exist.

Obviously, building shelters, traps, camp furniture, cooking utensils, spears and numerous other things are the main things that spring to mind.

Another thing, is that each section of bamboo acts like a water container, therefore you will never be short of water.

Bamboo is an incredibly versatile material, you could shred the fibres to mix with cement to make a very resilient lightweight concrete that would be perfect for earthquake-prone areas, most of the plant could be pulped to produce a tough fibrous paper, yarn for clothing (and very soft and comfortable to wear too!), or even a natural matting for 'fibreglass' working...it's uses are only as limited to the other materials needed to make what you wish
