Fossett plane found, sheriff says

www.cnn.com

(CNN) -- Authorities have found the plane Steve Fossett was flying when he disappeared last year, but they have not found the millionaire adventurer's body, the Madera County, California, sheriff said Thursday.
The wreckage of adventurer Steve Fossett's plane was found in California's Sierra Nevada on Thursday.

"They did locate an aircraft which we have now confirmed is the one Steve Fossett was flying when it disappeared last Labor Day," Sheriff John Anderson told reporters at a news conference in Mammoth Lakes.

The plane apparently crashed head-on into the side of a mountain, and the damage was "so severe I doubt someone would've walked away from it," the sheriff said.

So they finally found the plane. I guess this end most of the curiosity.

Will they find the body? Thats about all that is left...

Quite perplexing. But the body could have been eaten by wild animals... who knows..

Bye bye 4th dimension debate. Such a tragic end to a great life. If this is posted already , sorry. I just knew the faa cards were found with cash, this is breaking....

I wonder how where the jacket was found in relation to the plane. Must have been close as they found the plane soon after the jacket.

This is still perplexing because according the news sources, Steve's
plan flew headlong right into a mountain side. The sherrif said that
people never survive these kind of head-on plane crashes. YET,
there is no body near the wreckage and the personal belongings
we've been reading about were found all together, about a quarter
mile from the crashed plane.

As I said last night, a forensic study of the personal effects, and now
the plane, should shed a lot of light on what happened to Mr. Fossett.
There's still more articles of clothing to be found too. I don't think
wild animals would eat his shoes and pants. The only mystery solved
so far is the plane's location. What happened to cause the crash will
be known soon too after the plane is analyzed. -cwm
