Are his magic tricks an illusion or are they real? If he is really conducting these tricks how? Is he possesed? Is he good? I would love to know what others think about him.

david blaine is an entertainer. he is good at what he does. it is his JOB to leave you in wonder and talking about what just happened, whether or not to believe it. that is all.

Whether they say there are camera tricks or not...there are, and at least a plethora of his tricks are just that - tricks of perception and where he knows your eyes will be.

I've seen most of his tricks done before, and the ones I haven't seen in person (real life) are certainly camera tricks with paid observers. One such example is his levitation trick. It's almost common knowledge that he positions himself in such a way that you can't see him pick himself up with the ball of either his left or right foot while keeping his heel attached to the one appearing to be levitated, but while on television he levitates over a foot...obviously a camera trick as you are never shown anything above his waist while being shown his feat (lol...feet).

Look again, record and playback his tricks, and you'll catch some stuff that convinces you.
Yet as I've said...I've seen his tricks before...mostly from convicts. No judgment intended here whatsoever - convicts have a lot of time on their hands to perfect certain banes of boredom, and they ARE skilled.

Still...he certainly does have an amorphous amount of talent in slight of hand, and he should be praised for his magnitude of professionalism when it comes to his trade wherever he learned it or whoever taught him.

Besides...he does what he's being taped for...entertainment value and highly adequate distraction of real events that change lives.

I finally watched Blaine last night on his Dive of Death stunt / hanging upside down for 60 hrs. The dive wasn't impressive, and didn't go according to plan ... it seemed. He was good at sleight of hand, but mostly he was boring, too many card tricks. I'd rather watch Angel, although he has too many card tricks this season, and all these magicians do the same tricks, same stunts. Although I will say Blaine's presentation of the card magic is more effective in leaving one mystified, or maybe his crowd doesn't seem so "planted".

I have to say, I've seen his shows...and he looks real.

I mean he may be C.G.I. but he looks human enough to me

Hrm.. yeh he looks human enough to me, although I've only seen him as a bunch of photons on the television soooo.. he could very well be fake lol

although I will say that most of what he does is sleight of hand, sleight of mouth, a mixture of persuasion engineering, design human engineering, and elements of neuro-linguistic programming (NLP)

or at best those would be what I would study/learn if I were to accomplish some of the things he's been able to.

NO! STOP HERE! David Blaine is not real. He is a magician. I can do nearly all his tricks. In fact I can do a better levitation called King's Levitation. His infamous levitation trick for instance is called Belducci Levitation. Even my brother who is 16 can do most of his tricks.

Well after watching his last special "The Dive of Death" I would just like to say that he is real. Real lame!

DB is real but his feats are not magic, lets see:

He has been buried alive. Frozen in ice. Lived under water for a stint. Stood on top of a pole. These are all pieces of endurance and insanity. Hardly real magic, does that even exist? It would be similar if a sprinter were able to run a marathon or triathlon. Big deal. Its all endurance and will.

Chris Angel is also real, however Chris uses fakery and illusion in his feats. You know? Video cameras sure are cool these days.

Cheers,

I think he is one of the best illusionists at the moment, (when he is doing actual tricks) I don't go for all the stamina events.

I have seen a show where he showed the viewers how he sets up a trick, he pushed a needle and thread through a part of his hand, all the way through, so he could produce the thread later on infront of a live audience.

He did put it through his hand, you may have seen where he pulls a thread from his stomach, it would be done the same way, put the needle sideways through skin so the thread rests inside the skin.

I really appreciate the lengths he goes to to create some of his tricks, but never the less they are just tricks.

The only "stamina" event I have liked seeing him do is holding his breath for a long time, you could see his face turning purple, I beleive he done this for real as it is possible to train your body to do such things.

I don't care about his magic tricks.

Anyone see him take two in the gut from Kimbo Slice though?
