Looky the date on the original post TC.

But, since you brought it up, what difference does such weaponry in the hands of the public make. If the Government ever needs 'taking back' it will be down to what the Armed Forces decide to do. Isn't it rather insulting to them to assume they will all follow the govt in whatever tyranny they are wielding over the masses.

Isn't it also a little foolhardy to assume that if the Armed Forces do side with the Govt. That the public really stands any sort of chance against a professional military? Although if I was a big arms manufacturer it sure wouldn't hurt sales to keep everyone paranoid and assuming they would stand a chance, if they only bought my latest weapons...

The first thing Hitler did when he came to power was remove the weapons from the public.

Not at all, Kano, taking back the government would be very doable. Our military isn't really that big when you compare it to the number of civilians, and considering the number of defectors there'd be, I see it as totally feasable.

I do see it as a moot point, though, as the government has been arbitrary for decades, now, and the public is ignorant to that fact.
I'll say it again, as long as you leave our cable TV and 401 (k)'s alone, everything else is negotiable.

I Agree TC, not to mention, the .50 BMG makes a wonderful accouterment to a debate/negotiation.

I shoot all kinds of weapons, own all kinds, AK's, AR, M1A, G3, USP Tactical, Glock. I just think that a rifle that can shoot through six whole houses ought to be in the posession of a well balanced individual . I'm going through background as we speak for a silencer. Do you realize how easy it would be for a terrorist to shut down an airport with one? Do you fly? Does your family? No, drive by's with 50's would be frankly, stupid. as would hold ups or any other crime you could think of---- except for armored car???? Didn't mean to imply that we shouldn't be able to have them- just care should be taken with them. If a group ever got into a firefight with the military and thought they would win because of a fifty cal' they're yanking it. 25mm, 30mm, Smaw, Law, 2.75" FFAR, come on... Their moment of glory would be short lived. And the new area denial crap, wireless tasers, EMP weapons etc, etc..... :

Did it penetrate through the bulletproof glass or what?

A 50 goes thru just about anything the public has or works with, armor, whatever.. At close range, at longer ranges the penetration drops off depending on ammo etc.. The raufos- (HEDP) , API, AP are all some very capable rounds most people have no idea except you know, what ball ammo can do. (HEDP is indeed the nastiest for behind armor effect and anti air, close is good enough if you hit a vehicle cab or whatever .AP will punch through , and I left out SLAP (saboted light armor penetrator) kind of the new round on the block, used in Iraq to good effect on t-55 I believe, went through it yes.. through it!!! Maybe you guys would like a mortar or two to hide huh? I live near Dillon Precision , they remake miniguns better than they ever ran. I'm sure they had to apply for the right to posess them and the other pieces they have (yeah they own many for stunts and such) You can find AP around But ball ammo at close range is nasty. (50 yards) . AP is out there but ball is everywhere and some of the special super match ammo available is interesting. Like to see the data on that stuff

Hey anybody know where a good link to the .50 Gecal is. I've seen it a time or two but..... Really cool gun, heavy ammo considerations , but, on large enough craft- vessel it would sure make it's presence known heh????

I agree with kozzy. he put it well no one has ever knocked over a 7-11 with one of these. to try and ban something just because it is scary to look at is ridiculous. did John allen muhammad (the DC sniper) use a big gun. no he used a small round in a vital organ. I'm a firm beleiver that gun control in some cases means simply using both hands.

OH please...

You could take down an aircraft with a .308 if you shot at the engine...

Why don't you leave the general public with bullets like the intermediate rounds then? what about leaving them with .22 next? BB guns? where will the line be drawn?

People like to shoot 50s because they are fun, hell, civilians use 20mm for rabbit hunting...it's sick...

Also, remember, the first muzzle loaders were .50cal, they still are, granted they weren't BMG rounds...but average citizens don't realize this, they will want all 50cals banned from that point...

What's next SMAW's for $5000 and mortars for 10 ?

Of course it's not goping to be used to hold up a 7-11, but on the other hand it could pierce the presidential limo at a mile with HEDP rounds. What I find amazing is they sell HE incindiery rounds to the public. I really can't fathom the logic behind that.

I've got a single shot AR.50 with a nice scope on top. Let me tell you it would take a hell of a person to lug a 48lbs rifle around to go nuts with. That gun was designed for long range shooting and nothing more. Because whatever it hits, It will tear the sh!t out of before you can say boo! I bought a DE .50ae pistol tonight and let me tell you that dwarfs my .44 by far, Something that I am looking forward to shooting for sure and being out there on the range with that monster is going to be a thrill.

BTW, Hey I'm new to all this forum stuff, Nice reading though. I fully support the right to bear arms and there is no laws passed that I know of telling us how big or small of a weapon we can own.

Your right, You can take down an aircraft with a .308 if it were sitting still but why would you want to?? I think people want the .50 because like you said it's makes noise and draws attention to them when they fire it. I was at the gun range and these guys came in with high points in a 9mm and were just blasting away like they were some gang bangers you know holding it sideways and trying to be cool for their girls watching, All the time I'm thinking why in the heck would you want to own a Highpoint and trust it to shoot?? More so why in the world are you looking into my postol bag at my Glocks and HK's?? There gus jamed every other round case they are junk and I guess the point is, People like that are just making noise and that's all. I'm an owner of several weapons and never have I seen anyone handle a firearm so poorly then that person at the range. It's spooky in the wrong hands yes, But who are we to decide who can and can't other then the background checks, But in the right hands ANY weapon can be allot of fun to shoot. I also hold my CCW and even for that I carry a Beretta Mod. 96 .40cal.

My 2 cents

Maybe a bullseye called his mother dirty names and a tin can molested his sister?

Sport shoting used to be quite popular in Australia before the gun laws changed but I have never seen a weapon like that in the hands of a civilian. It is just ridiculous. I mean sure if you are plagued by fire breathing rabid elephants then every household wouldwant one but COME ON!!!

So does anyone own the new S&W 500 or DE .50AE? I'm looking for more info on the DE .50AE? more so on the finishes, I hear that they have a titanium finish that is tough in harsh weather?

When was the last time you've heard of Joe Public using a 50 cal to harm the public....probably not that often (I may be wrong, If so please let me know). There is nothing wrong with someone owning whatever he/she wants as long as they go through the proper channels ie: license, permit, backgorund check and whatever else I cant think of.

The focus should be on the $25-200 cheap made dime a dozen weapons that are populating the streets. If Billy bob down yonder in Kakalaky wants spend his 2 months of pay on a weapon because he feels insecure about himself and probably wanted to join the Marines but never had the balls to do it...WOOPTY F$%ing DOO!!! let him do it, the only thing he's killing is beer cans, tree stumps, and old dodge pick-ups.

With that said- if it becomes a problem then take action, but until then lets get the guns off the streets that kill people, nit the guns that are in the middle of alabama, 50 miles from the nearest form of life.
Thank you-
note: most of the people that kill and murder can't afford one of these...
thats why they go for the cheap ones

My friend just got a S&W 500 (short barrel) and also owns a Desert Eagle. The S&W bullet dwarfs the DE bullet it truley is a hand cannon. The bullets are so expensive though. I have already seen a guy that has killed a elephant with the S&W 500. The thing is crazy.

His DE has like a brushed metal finish with a black grip it is not a shining nickel plating, There is a Jamaican guy that comes to my range that has a gold plated DE as well. I think its gawdy but hey he likes it.

Magnum Research will make custom finishes but it will cost you.Check out their new option

Tiger strip gold Gawdy if you ask me but some people like it.
