Thousands of left-wing demonstrators gathered to protest against an extreme right-wing rally have clashed with police in the German city of Cologne.

Police said about 3,000 protesters threw stones at officers, while some tried to steal their weapons.

Violence erupted after the protesters tried to halt an "anti-Islamification" rally, which police eventually banned.

The extreme-right Pro-Koeln group had sought to protest against plans to build one of Europe's biggest mosques.

Y'know, this kinda reminds me of those "Antifa" yobs who believe that the "best solution for racism/Islamophobia/xenophonia/anti-semitism is to kikk sum teefz in!.

It's a sad statement in any society if enough thugs (and that's the crux of the manner - anyone who attacks rival protestors/police officers is a thug - "Islamophobic" or not) can - by simply being violent and unruly enough - manage to get a protest shut down through their antics.

Question to the fellows at the BBC: Why do you label the original protestors "far-right", yet remain completely neutral in regards to the "Leftists"? I wonder how many of those nice, Leftist protestors are really left of Stalin, or Trotsky?

In a speech earlier on Saturday, Cologne Mayor Fritz Schramma labelled Pro-Koeln “arsonists and racists” hiding under the cloak of a “citizens’ movement”.

Police say they responded with batons after left-wing protesters set fire to barricades.

Well, the good Mayor of Cologne has a sense of humour at least.

As mentioned before, when any group of rampaging yobs can shut-down any protest through violent means, that society is doomed:

They SCREAM, Nazi at the right-wingers but the irony is they are the ones trying to suppress free speech.
The same thing happens when ever the BNP rally in Britain. "Nazi scum off our street", at the Red White and Blue annual festival, BNP members (including myself) were warned to avoid it unless we wanted trouble and that if we brought out children along they would be valid targets (Sound like some other extremist we know huh?)
Luckily for us, the Police sided with us (as we hold it on private land) despite having numerous licenses removed.

When we got there, the number of groups that turned up were literally fighting themselves over who would lead the march, they had quite a few clashes with the police and we even received a few rocks over the hedges, what lovely people throwing rocks onto an area where children are playing.Needless to say, the only people who got themselves arrested that weekend were the 'left-wing' demonstrators.

Don't get the me wrong, this wasn't left-wingers, these events are not those of simply left-wing inclined people. They are that of full blown communist with their own agenda.

I'd love to see how peaceful the protests would be if Christians planned to build the biggest Church in the middle-east in Saudi-Arabia?
