Found:A mile Long Vodka pipe to Europe

www.thesun.co.uk

CUSTOMS chiefs have uncovered an underwater pipeline used to smuggle cheap vodka from Russia into the European Union.
They found the mile-long channel pumping illicit firewater into Estonian capital Tallinn after seizing a monster 1,159-litre stash.

I can't read the story cause of the firewall here at work, but it sounds cool. I wanna meet the person that came up with that idea. Wonder what else they will think of.

Such an ingenious idea.

We should also have a tequila pipe from Mexico all the way to the EU!

If you think about, this is only one of an infinite amount of possibilities to smuggle something, however this one is a more comprehensive and meticulous method. Just think what all the mafias of the world have in place now...we have no idea. They have had hundreds of years to perfect their methods. Pretty awesome although not surprising...

What a great story! I am so happy to have chosen this thread to read first. It is a great way to start the day. I hope all who are recieving this Vodka in the EU have protests to the finding of this pipeline! Stand up for your Vodka!! Back home in Alabama where I come from we call Vodka "tater juice." How cute is that? Well I am sure someone will build another, hell, have a multi-liquor one this time! CHEERS!!!

Sorry, I know this is a one-liner but I really have to know: How good can that vodka possibly taste after being pumped through a mile long pipe?

If it was pvc or food grade inch braided tube shouldn't have any real impact. I'm sure they propably did there homework.

You know they did their homework...one possible reason why this was discovered is somebody probably got angry and narked which now will result in their death....or worse. I am sure we will find out how soon enough.

How did they manage to continuously produce enough vodka to keep a pipeline running?

...

Wow. That must have been one hell of a facility on the sending end!

Most people have no idea how extensive and elaborate the majority of smuggling or other underground operations are. The only ones you normally hear about in the news are do-it-yourself people.

These guys probably had entire full-sized warehouses manufacturing 24/7. I've seen pictures of some incredibly massive grow-ops... ACRES of illegal plants wall-to-wall, UNDERGROUND in state-of-the-art facilities

Then there is always the possibility that it was a legitimate Russian Vodka company that say 80-90% of it's vodka it sold legally to use as a front company, and the other 10-20% was leeched off through this pipeline for considerably higher profit.

I would guess that once the pipe is full and bled of air then a bit of communication from each end would do it - a quick phone call to say draw of 100 litres when your ready, something like that.

Man I bet the tap on the other end was gold plated! I love this!

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

The US was founded on smugglers. Smuggling was one of the main issues between the colonies and the crown. Many times these type of things are done with the knowledge of the government of one side or the other, and I wouldn't be surprised to find that the case here.

I read of a tunnel being found south of San Diego under the US/Mexican border that was very sophisticated, complete with lights and ventilation. Smugglers are very resourceful people.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

Did you read about the 'homemade' coc aine smuggling submarines? Now I know how bad coke is - but if the money is there... so is the ingenuity
