I'm in, I've been wanting to write a story for a while, just couldn't think of a good topic...

Oh man, I hope I get some time off from work to pull something together. I really want my "writer" status BACK! And this topic is right up my alley.

What does this mean...?

4. The contest will be scrapped unless three judges step forward and U2U myself. You will keep yourselves anonymous.

I didn't know fiction writing was a part of ATS? I need to walk around BTS more often I suppose. Well I would love to write this short story. How do I get the proper papers in order, to be in this here contest?

**Eaten a grammar cracker and fixed my mistakes.

It means, unless I receive three volunteer judges, who present themselves anonymously via u2u, the contest is essentially over. Reveal you're a judge (like Antar) and you are DQed as a judge. No one to judge it, then no one wins.

Just start writing. As for positions, usually we have the usual in addition to the top three as rated by judges:

The Golden Greenhorn Trophy: Best first-time entrant.

The Bod Award for Exemplary Mod Entry: Mods are usually banned from winning, but this give them something to shoot for.

The Reader's Choice Award: Three best stories that didn't make top three.

The Gary Coleman Award: The story with the most comments (talked about, Willis).

This is how it works:

You go to the Short Stories Forum. Click on "New Thread" and type your short story on there.

The title must contain (HSSC2) + Title. So if your story is called "The Lucid Lunatic", the thread title would be:

(HSSC2) The Lucid Lunatic

I am SOOOOOOOOOO in.

I dunno if the story I've been writing since last year is too long or something, but if it is I'll write something up to take it's place.

Ah, the Halloween season has BEGUN!

Oh yes. Count me in.

what's the bottom limit on word count? ... for example, a short short story, usually the most exciting for people to read and the easiest for amateurs to pull off but considered the hardest for non-amateurs to write well, has a max of 2000 words.

Are you counting words as words -- or as a five-character-count=one word-- ... or, are you counting total characters, and are you counting spaces as words?

Hate to get so technical, but opps, there it is.

In each case, if the upper limit is 5,000 whatever's, what's the lower limit of whatever count.

Can the story be previously published, allowing the author still owns all copyrights to it?

I am fairly new to ATS and was wondering if the story should be "replied to" here are entered somewhere else on the site? Thanks, Pam

I'll have to see what I can come up with, DE. I need to start brainstorming for this so it's at least half-decent.

Good luck to everyone else out there. I'm looking forward to seeing some of these stories after I write mine.

Holy crap, TDH is back. Good to see you man.

Writer status is not required for submitting short stories. Writer status will be given to participants though.

Edit: Make sure you save your work before posting folks.

i hope no one writes a story about some "evil" alien invasion... the more people hear about the possibility of aliens being evil, the more they think that they're going to be. of course, i don't know for sure if all are "good", but i'd imagine they're similar to us - most good, but some bad. besides, there are tons of alien horror stories out there.

just start writing about the NWO or NAU - i find that the most realistic horror stories can be the scariest!!

something about 2012 would be cool, too

i look forward to reading these!
