I cannot help but chuckle at the responses to your post. As I look out at my own driveway, I can just imagine a used spaceship dealer, promoting the
latest model of spaceship design on subspace TV station KBBQ7! Fifty quarks down and only five quarks a bleem with approved financing.
But you do pose a good question. On earth, we use how many different types of space craft. Basically we've been using the one type for the last
several decades and while Russia has their own shuttle craft, it looks very much the same as ours in overall appearance and function.
I could only guess that radically different designs were created for different purposes.
Those craft that were designed for use in water may appear different from those designed for atmosphere only, while craft designed for interstellar
travel may appear completely different altogether.
Then again, how many different governments would these aliens truly represent? It is possible to conceive that a single alien species may come from
completely different governments and represent different ideologies, countries or even planets, and thus different designs.
