As a Republican(Voting for McCain/Palin) What issues are Important to You in this election Year

I'm really curious to here from the Republicans here on ATS. Lets for one second hold off on the insults from both parties and focus on the issues.

What issues are the most important to you in this election. Name your top 5 or your top 10 issue.


My, myself; I would consider myself in between as I like some of the values Republicans carry and some of those that Democrats carry.

Sanity in Decision 2008? An interesting concept. Let's hope it stays civil.

My top issues are:

The economy

The war in Iraq and Afghanistan

The housing market and how it's affecting the job market in the housing industry

The price of gas

Alternative energy

I think the McCain might be onto something with the economy, but one out of five isn't good enough for me to vote for him.

Well since their aren't any republican stating the issues that's most important to them, I see no problem with you stating the issues important to you.

I'm surprise, with the number of republicans here and the fierce debate between them and Democrats I would have thought they would really enjoy stating what they want from their candidates. I hope they are not voting solely on personalities rather than issues.

Here are my issues every election, not just this year:

1. strong national defense
2. less government intrusion and regulation
3. lower taxes
4. restrained government spending
5. moral character of candidate

I'm neither Republican or Democrat. I'm independent. By definition that makes me a Maverick!

The Economy: Strengthen the US Dollar, lower unemployment, replace old-era factory jobs that are leaving this country with new-era tech jobs. We need to enter the information age fully, that includes the job market.

Education: We are losing our edge on the global stage and in an increasingly more global environment, we MUST maintain our edge. MORE money to education, MORE choices for schools, HIGHER quality of education and HIGHER quality of teachers.

Foreign Affairs: We need to start respecting other sovereign nations and remove a lot of our 700+ bases from around the world. We need to address problems here at home rather than abroad.

Corruption: The govt is so bloated I can barely stand to look at any of them. We praise the good one's because they're only moderately corrupted and that's unacceptable. Need to revamp government and control spending.

Technology: America needs to be the leader in technology. We need to be at the forefront of the space race.

Alternative Energy: We need to find that next truly effective form of energy (not ethanol) and spawn a new "green" industry that will allow us to lead at SOMETHING other than being disliked around the world.

If i was taking more time with this I could flesh them out a bit more, but hey, it's late. Good post!

Perhaps you should conider changing the title of the thread to "As a Republican or a Conservative (voting for McCain/Palin) are there ANY issues important to you in this election year?"

Many true conservatives (like myself) feel they have been abandoned by the so called "Republican party" for the last 8 years. I can't believe how any democrat could point a finger at Bush and accuse him of being a republican?

When Bush took office the Government was a 185 pound healthy tri-athlete. As he leaves office the government is now a 400 pound couch potato (Dan Quayle, if you're reading this that would be potatoe). His uncontrolled spending, imigration policies, yudda, yudda, yudda are not in line with the Republican party I knew/know.

With about 50 days to go it seems the only thing I'm hearing these days is who's baby is it, is Barack Obama a closet Muslim, and who the hell threw the flags in the trash?

I hear the word "change" thrown around a lot, but what exactly are they going to change?

When I hear the dems use the word "universal" attached to the various government programs they want to initiate, I wonder if that's their way of forwarding a socialist agenda?

I wish Barack would just come out and admit he's a gay Muslim, and Palin would come out and admit the kid belongs to her daughter, and she had an affair with her husbands partner. Otherwise we'll be debating worthless issues until November first. And never get to the real issues.
