I'm not against teaching abstinence as part of a comprehensive sex education course, in fact I think it is important that it be included. That said, I am anxious to see how the religious far right would react if this rumor were to be found true.

Me neither. I'm in no way saying we throw them all condoms and say "have at each other", but abstinence is not for everybody, including myself as a teen. Unless her daughter was out to harm her mother, which I doubt, it shows very clearly that it's not as simple as raising your kids conservatively. Abstinence, for those with strong enough willpower, is the most effective way to avoid pregnancy and STD's, but again, one has to be able to deny their natural urges, and that can be EXTREMELY difficult, lol.

They sidestepped the pregnant teen daughter issue by focusing on her decision to keep the baby and marry the father.

The key word is "decision" to keep the baby. A decision that Palin's position is to remove from all mothers, regardless of circumstance.

If Palin is proven to have had an affair, it would be a much more difficult issue for the far right, though I have no doubt that they will find a way to rationalize what they preach so strongly against.

Totally agree.

Ok, let's just say the secret lover story is true.
As wrong as it is...
Did she lie under oath?
Is it really anybody's business?
Is there a love child involved?

Again I think it is a non-issue and unproven, BUT to answer your question, if it was true she would have lied to John McCain who had her fill out a questionaire that specifically asked if she had ever cheated on her spouse.

So she would have lied to McCain and staff and obviously they felt it was a legitimate question for a potential VP and their business.

What I don't understand is why an affair should have any influence over the political career of any politician. Why should it be an issue.

The only time it should become an issue is when the politician lies and tries to cover it up once it has been exposed. If John Edwards had admitted his affair and then asked forgiveness at the start, he might still have had a political career, as it is, he is burnt toast. Then the behavior is definitely an issue.

There are multiple instances of a politician "owning up" to things and then still staying a political force.

Two things surprise me. One, is that this thread was allowed to exist this long. Two, how someone can post a rumor is beyond me.
Sarah Palin has done much for Alaska, and my city, (hers as well).
And yea, I know her.
There is not a better candidate for VP-and she has my vote.

It would be really great if you posted how and why in an appropriate thread.

Personally, I'd like to read something from someone with an opinion based on personal experience (good or bad) regarding Palin that is not media driven.

This has gone on long enough. No evidence has been provided to prove the OP point. It's all just unsubstantiated rumor, and as such, should not be considered a political conspiracy even.

It ranks up there with the Obama gay sex / drug use rumor. Both are unsubstantiated by any facts.

This should go in Skunkworks unless the OP chimes in with info, IMO it smells.

Most certainly not all of us cheat on our spouses, and even more certainly than that not all of us allow ourselves to be filmed while in the act. I for one do not ever want to see exactly what I look like during the act itself, I imagine its sort of like hearing your own voice on the answering machine only much much worse!!

IF she did in fact have an affair it speaks to her ability to uphold her word and her oaths, it also doesn't jive well when she claims to be from such a righteous and moral standing and so involved in her church.

The fact of the matter is we don't know her, it has taken months to gather and learn all we can about obama and with so little time left before the election we will not be given that chance with Sarah Palin.

Normally I wouldn't give a rats about the VP but with John Mcain in his 70s and having had cancer several times it becomes much more important who is next in line.

I think that the abuse of power investigation of Palin is more important than the rumor surrounding an alleged love affair.

The investigation into whether Gov. Palin fired Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan after pressuring him to "fire trooper, and Palin former brother-in-law, Mike Wooten from the force" is a credible issue because the investigation began in July -- about a month before John McCain proposed to her to be his running mate. To me that is substantial and definitely should not be overlooked by anybody concerned with abuse of power by government officials of any capacity.

If there were any cigars involved maybe they'll be sold on eBay.

Hey wait a sec, another anti Palin thread based on rumors and innuendo that is still alive on ATS.

What gives?

This thread was opened September 6, 2008. Nothing in the way of evidence has been presented. It's been 10 days. If this thread was leftover pizza in my refrigerator from that date, it would be time to throw it out (or swallow it down which I'm not going to do!)

Can I tag it as "another Palin smear thread" yet?

i am originally from wassilla alaska and was 2 years behind palin. i didn't know her personally but she had a reputation.

this looks legit. i read it on tmz and googled it to see if it was true. that's how i found this site.

the same story, more or less, appears on several prominent websites and it looks like it is about to break wide open.

Those are creditable! You people would do anything to try and ruin a good person.

MAKES ME SICK

Are you one of those people that jumped down Bill Clintons throat for screwing around? If you are, shame on you.

I don't think so. If the thread were a mere slander statement, maybe, but there are sources named who claim the accusation. So maybe not.

we didn't hear about from the "sources" we are taking the OP word that he heard it from the "sources" that cannot be verified, you can't even click on a link to read it for yourself. in my opinion that is worse than a blog as a source.

if that is the case i could start all kind of negative threads against obama on rumors i have "heard"

do you think they would be allowed to run this long?
