Russia's Putin saves TV crew from Siberian tiger

www.alertnet.org

MOSCOW, Aug 31 (Reuters) - Prime Minister Vladimir Putin was feted by Russian media on Sunday for saving a television crew from an attack by a Siberian tiger in the wilds of the Far East.

Putin, taking a break from lambasting the West over Georgia, apparently saved the crew while on a trip to a national park to see how researchers monitor the tigers in the wild.

Just as Putin was arriving with a group of wildlife specialists to see a trapped Amur tiger, it escaped and ran towards a nearby camera crew, the country's main television station said. Putin quickly shot the beast and sedated it with a tranquilizer gun.

"Vladimir Putin not only managed to see the giant predator up close but also saved our television crew too," a presenter on Rossiya television said at the start of the main evening news.

All politics aside... Putin is a bada**.

Star for you, and for Vlad's aim.

Highly amusing.

Putin is also a black belt who can throw people in half with his arms.

It's funny how Russia has a fit and physically tough leader, while our western leaders couldn't punch their way out of a wet paper bag.

It wouldn't matter which politician it was.
They wouldn't let them go into a tiger reserve without at least a tranq gun.
The fact it was a tranq gun and not a real gun shows planning.
However they don't care as much about a media crew as they do about politicians.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

Definitely the story of the day for me.

RussiaToday is going to have a field day.

Sounds like propaganda to me. Tranq guns do not work as fast as they do in the movies. You will not stop a charging tiger with one. You would be lucky to stop a large charging animal with a real gun.

Well, now we don't need to worry about WWIII - just have Putin face off against Chuck Norris in the Ultimate Showdown!

I doubt that it is EXACTLY how the story makes it sound. Agreed on propaganda most likely. Some professional probably shot the animal, at which point Putin approached it's sleeping carcass for photo ops and for the truth to be bent. If a non-Russian news source reports it, I stand corrected.

I'd love to see Putin and Bush in a boxing ring. Can you imagine Putin giving Bush a massive upper cut to his big fat head

I agree with the propaganda angle of this story.

Putin could still take on Bush and Cheney 2v1 though, Putin is ex-KGB afterall...

A siberian tiger is an endangered species, it would only make sense that he would use a tranquilizer, rather than a firearm.

Cheney did shoot some old guy in the face while "hunting" quail in a fish-in-a-barrel situation...you don't see bravery in that? You must be a liberal.

Yeah, and Cheney shot a lawyer. Lawyer's are reported to be five times as fierce as Siberian Tiger's. They also have several clauses that can basically destroy your life and not even kill you.
