Asian alliance rebuffs Russian plea for support

www.breitbart.com

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan (AP) - China and several Central Asian nations rebuffed Russia's hopes of international support for its actions in Georgia, issuing a statement Thursday denouncing the use of force and calling for the respect of every country's territorial integrity.

A joint declaration from the six-member Shanghai Cooperation Organization also offered some support for Russia's "active role in promoting peace" following a cease-fire, but overall it appeared to increase Moscow's international isolation.

I've been looking for this source for a while - I mentioned this on ATS on Thursday.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (Asia alliance) gave mixed support for Russian actions in Georgia. Russian state media claims the alliance supported them by all accounts, but other international media (including Chinese) painted a different picture.

China refused to offer strong support because of separatist problems in Tibet and Taiwan.

The fact that China has borders that have only these last few years been sttled by means other than wars may make them take this stand too..

Great piece, as I was looking for this myself.

Cheers infinite.
