Is anyone else in the Netherlands observing a heightened level of alertness of the military or police? I just saw an AWACS passing over three times at low altitude (2000-4000 feet) (I live near Utrecht). Seems odd....

Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS)

Essentially a flying radar room of sorts. (though they have more than just radar on board)

Heres a link

hmm I haven't seen them (yet), but they are not rare. I live near a small NATO base, and see them a couple of times a year.

Several nato AWACS's are stationed at the german AFB 'Geilenkirchen', and are allowed to fly over the eastern part of holland.

I know, I know. I've seen AWACS before over the Netherlands, I lived near to a low-flying route (AWESOME!!). But not doing three rounds (And then I had to get inside again) over the Utrecht area. I mean, it's sorta strange, it seemed on patrol, which is quite unnecessary in the Netherlands, as we are an ally and have good radar facilities. Come to think of it, I have also seen P-4 Orions (Naval intelligence planes) doing the same routine somewhere in the last year.
