"MOSCOW (AP) — A top Russian general said Friday that Poland's agreement to accept a U.S. missile defense battery exposes ex-communist nation to attack, possibly by nuclear weapons, the Interfax news agency reported"

"Poland, by deploying (the system) is exposing itself to a strike — 100 percent," Nogovitsyn, the deputy chief of staff, was quoted as saying."
Associated Press

This however would be VERY different from Georgia.

Poland IS a NATO country.

If the new Russian Empire nukes Poland, it will have to be nuked in return by NATO.

I don't think Putin and company are that stupid or suicidal.......I don't believe they are...

The New Soviet Empire has already threatened Ukraine with shutting off its oil and natural gas in the winter time-Such humanitarian's the New Empire is.

I don't know really what to think about this move by Russia? I can say this.... I kinda feel that some thing like this was bound to happen... The United States has been pissing around in the middle east because big oil got a foot hold in the top office of this country. It does not surprise me that for the last 12 years we have watched Russia under the stealthy but steady guide of Putin ever grow more powerful.
I mean lets face it Russia might have had a "collapse" if thats what you want to call it? I think it was more of a re-structure of out-dated political/government operations that America bought hook line and sinker. I have been watching Russia right under our nose liquidate it's control over old soviet provinces and really do what any major company would do if it had controlling interest in a smaller company that wasn't producing profits...sell it's losses.
We can't just assume Russia was going to go away and never again want to be a political player in the world? I mean like America, Russia is a governmental business and to think of it like a big business that has a image problem in it's market Russia shead it's old image of hard nose communist rule for a new shiney image of free trade operations and acceptance... And what business model did Russia use for for some of their new image? None other than the good ole U.S.of A.
And while we have been chasing lobbist interest in the middle east Russia has been fine tuning their government and up-dating their military and locking in natural resources and building strong relations with countries that could have a economical impact directly on our economy.
Now Russia has set back and watched us move into a controlling oil country i.e. Iraq and said nothing. But it doesn't surprise me they are starting to flex military operations over this agreement with Poland.
When the United States made the comment this past week that "Russia can't just up and invade another European country like it did back in 1969" I about fell out of my seat. Thats pretty ballsy of us to make that kind of statement with us sitting in Iraq. So I mean as crazy as things are does this really surprise anyone? Really?
Russia has been around the block like China..counties with staying power don't just die out and fade away as much and as arrogantly America would like to think. Just look at history.
So surprised they made this statement...no not at all.

I concur.I grew up during the Cold War era.We learned as much as we could about the Soviet Union. The West stands with Poland and Georgia. We will stand by our allies to the end no matter where that takes us.

The way I see it is Russia is merely responding to US / NATO actions. Basing missiles of any kind close to Russia, as well as all the US bases being set up in ex soviet states is provocative to say the least.

What would the US reaction be to Chinese airbases, troops and missiles being stationed close to it's borders in Canada and Mexico?

There's also the chess game being fought (and, so far, being lost by the western powers) to control oil and gas from the region. Of course, this little fact gets overlooked a lot by the MSM and government talking heads who prefer to rattle off the same old tired rhetoric about evil communists and their plans for world domination.

So many chances to work with Russia blown away by idiotic foreign policy, dreamed up by people who want to control our lives using methods old Joe Stalin would have been proud of. How things have changed!

I seem to remember a time when Russia decided to park a few missiles in nearby Cuba. I don't remember the US being very supportive of that idea and if memory serves, it caused a bit of international tension. I realize that a missile shield and nuclear weapons aren't exactly the same thing, but I figured the other similarities are worth noting.

of course the russians would feel threatened by such actions.the russian military is a fraction of what it use to be prior to the collapse of their economy, and it's only their 16000+ nukes that guarantees their survival.

besides why is america so hell bent on upsetting russia? could it be the war on terrorism hasn't been proven effective enough in controlling masses ?

The war on terrorism, complete sham that it is, just doesn't generate the sort of military orders that they'd hoped it would. So, kick off another cold war and sit back and watch the military spending go through the roof again.

You call us "quite psychotic"? Sheesh. Sure. Right. Rare piece of bigotry for ATS, I must say. You also seem to relish the idea that "every russian be killed".

Clearly this is just a responce to Russia's threats of Nuclear weapon use on Poland/Nato.

The point of the previous post was to show how people support Nuking Russia proper if Russia nukes any nato country/ship/troops.

It is more than fair to question Russia's intelligence/mental state if they think they will use nuclear weapons and not get nuked back.....PERIOD.

LOL. As I wundt like to come across immature here, for a Russian to speak like buddhasystem dose in perfect american english is outstandingly humourous. I must say, I have tortured a Russian before and it was enjoyable, please, I do feel lucky, I always have since that day. All pathetic childish behaviour aside though, We must get back to an adult conversation of Russia, if they was to nuke, would be obliterated and the world would turn aganist all Russians or anyone who part takes with Russia.

Apologies mrmonsoon,

I would say that Russia wundt run the risk of attacking Poland however some how could fund a terrorism funded plot to attack the defense system of the United States. So that it would show that russia would not have any direct involvement? maybe thats were its all been coming from in the begining.

I don't think they would attack poland with american defensive system there especially with it been a nato country now, I think it will be threats.

A "New Soviet Empire"? Have you been drinking again mrmonsoon?

Soviet is a Russian word for Council - I do not see a new council of Socialist Republics or Republic. You could argue the EU is, but that is a different matter.

Russia is far from Socialist or Communist State (the official opposition in Russia is the Communist Party - most of them are in jail) and Russia does not have an imperial domain. In fact, it is a federation - just like the United States. So, we can drop the word "Soviet" and "Empire" now.

Poland is also a member of the European Union and Russia wants good relations with Europe, it isn't going to carry out a nuclear strike on Poland. United Kingdom and Germany are the largest investors in the Russian economy, so the Kremlin isn't going to - as we say in England - play silly buggers with its economy.

To be honest mrmonsoon, when it comes to Russia, Iran and Muslims you tend to get a little bit too excited.

With Russia's threats of nuclear attacks on independent countries/Nato countries, it is clear that Russia IS reverting to it's Soviet era empire building.

And your last statement was also completly off topic and nothing more than a personal attack, again.

Back to Russia:

It has invaded and still not left georgia.

It has threatened to shut off oil and natural gas to Ukraine

It has said 100% it WILL attack Poland, a NATO country.

It has stated, in it's mental dilusion, that nuclear weapons are the same as percision "CONVENTIONAL" weapons.

Infinite, YOUR personal attack on me is CLEARLY OFF TOPIC!!!!!!!

If you are not capable of staying on topic, perhaps you should not post in this thread.

Where as Soviet union was supposed to be a collection or union of countries, it was simple the countries Russia invaded and took over. ( That is not a federation or union, it is an Empire)

BTW, lets define empire, shall we:
"An empire (from the Latin "imperium", denoting military command within the ancient Roman government) is a state that extends dominion over populations distinct culturally and ethnically from the culture/ethnicity at the center of power."
Wiki

Boy, that sure seems to me to describe the old Soviet Union as well as what Russia is doing today.
