In less than two weeks the DNC will convene their convention in the Mile High City, Denver Colorado. As the excitement grows, a troubling story broke
this week.
At an up-scale hotel, not far from Denver's downtown and less than 10 blocks from the state capitol, a man from Canada was found dead. Beside his
body, was one pound of cyanide. He had no passport and was reported to be from another country (possibly in Africa).
The family reports that he was a 29 years old salesman, mentally ill and suffered from diabetes. In normal times, a sad story, but this is 2008 and
tens of thousands of people are about to descend on the city for a political convention. It was enough to bring in the FBI and the joint terrorism
task force along with the local police.
The story has been downplayed, but questions remain. Is it typical that someone with this particular description stay at a $200+ per night hotel?
How could he be dead for six days - isn't there daily maid service for those prices? In Denver's hot Summer weather (90s) I'm sure the odor caught
someone's attention along with what was reported to be a noticable smell of almonds (cyanide).
Perhaps he had suicide in mind when he brought in 1lb of cyanide to Denver, but that is a hefty amount of the poison for just one person to ingest.
If anyone on this fine site knows anything about cyanide and its distribution as a crowd poisoning, please reply. The reports also state that it is
very easy to get cyanide and is a common pesticide.
