In my opinion this statement by Russia has been slightly mischaracterized. Don't get me wrong - it was bound to be an inflammatory statement, and I'm not defending Russia by any means. I refuse to take a side in this conflict.

That said, I don't feel that Russia actually said "choose between us or Georgia." Their exact words sound more to me as if they were trying to imply that Russia is a large country with fairly significant military, political, and economic leverage in various parts of the world, and that as such the U.S. may eventually have to choose between a strategic partnership with such a nation and a strategic relationship with a smaller, less powerful country with potentially less to offer us as a friendly state.

I didn't interpret it as a threat, or a "you're either with us or against us" statement. Naturally, I could easily be wrong.

And, on the other side of the equation, I also feel that American's statement that Russia is jeopardizing its relations with the West has also been likewise mischaracterized. I don't feel that America was threatening Russia or saying that it will pick a fight if Russia doesn't comply. I just think they will bring political and diplomatic pressure to bear against Russia in the form of, perhaps, severing its ties with certain international organizations (G8, WTO, etc.)

"Youre either with us or youre with the terrorists (unless youre Pakistan)." I remember that. What the Russians do not realize is that it is not 1968, you just cant invade a country, unless you create a false-flag, go to the UN to cry about it, cry about when the UN doesnt do anything, and then go it alone. Jeeze, what rank-amateurs!

"This is not 1968," said US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice emphatically at a Washington news conference, "where Russia can threaten a neighbour, occupy a capital, overthrow a government and get away with it."

Seriously how can she say this when the U.S. is presently doing the same thing in Iraq?

I've been thinking about that , thing is, no matter what any nation does with it's military on foreign soil... you'll get an instance of the US having done the very same but for more ignoble reasons . So everything that is said is hypocritical , so you can't just murmer it, you got to be brash , brazen , loud.. and say it often, so it becomes the norm. So it becomes less of a jaw dropper every time . Say it loud and often and some fools will think that they must be confused and wrong to think it hypocritical .

Wow I get so sick of hearing people saying this is all chest beating.
On the US side? Maybe. Because we arent going to attack Russia.
On the Russian side? Man I dunno they just attacked a country.

I dont see nearly as many people calling it chest beating now that
Russia is invading countries.

I dont agree totally with what Russia did but I understand,
Georgia had no right to slaughter people. Thats just not
how you tell people to leave your country.

The US sending in so much stuff is in essence defending Georgia
and asking Russia to attack the US. And Bush is daring them to.

Are you guys saying this is chest beating to ag them on like we are
on a playground? Im not getting it. Do you guys want this to happen?
It is apparent to me that ever person calling this chest beating
wants WW3 to kick off. We will see how much you want all this
when the bombs start falling.

I for one can tell Russia is very serious, and they are not affraid
to retaliate in the least. We've got bombers flying up our buttcracks
now with stealthed nuclear cruise missles. I guess thats some more
chest beating. This is building up to a very real climax.

We practiced drills in elementary school because being prepared for
disaster is a very real need. Its needed because disaster does happen.
What can happen will happen. I guess some never graduated from
elementary school.

Memysabu the sad thing is there is a large group of people who perversly would like to see WW3 and a large majority of the worlds population to just up and die.

All of them have different reasons all of those reasons are just as ignorant and suicidal. For the Religious nuts its to bring on the end of the world and the second coming etc..

For others its about population control at any cost.. And also there is a group who just flat out are insane and want everyone and everything just to end.

I have expressed my opinions here on these forums about how serius this situation is and people have said things like Oh its not that bad etc ..

The point is... The situation IS that bad.. Anyone who knows history knows it is that bad.. People will continue to play the situation down out of fear .. They do not want to even begin to look at reality.

People minimalize what they can not understand and fear.. It is human nature.

That all said.. We truly do not know the entire situation on the ground and what is going on.... Some are marginalizing the situation others are blowing it out of porpotion. It is hard to be able to react properly with the disjointed nature of the information that is being released.

I hope it is not as bad as i think.. But history and human nature tells me it is as bad as i think.

USA vs. Russia....

why does the phrase 'we're boned' come into my mind? I can't help but think of the disasters that await the USA in the near future. Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Georgia shoot down russian planes first? I you ask me Georgia had it comming to them. Put yourself in Putin's shoes, someone just shot down your planes, wouldn't you consider that an act of terrorism?

Well, I suppose you have to shoot down some planes if they're in your sovereign territory bombing your cities.

Give me a break ..rediculous.

I would try not to confuse fear with ignorance.

I would also try not to let those of lesser... aptitude? awareness?... either way, try not to let them get under your skin. Just as in a bad horror movie, when things hit the fan, we know who will be the first to go.

Russia is fortunate that the US has a "lame-duck" in office otherwise this situation would play out alot differently. Regardless of how you regard the Bush administration, it is purely protecting a sovereign ally, which in my view is the epitome of what the US stands for. Sticking up for the under-dog. Do we just let Russia basically expand its borders by force without any territorial and humanitarian consideration for our allies? Absolutely not!

Russia has succesfully played the propaganda tool to its advantage as many other enemies of the US have due to an extremely unpopular adminsitration and also an objective western media. The US has looked nothing but weak during this conflict which is extremely unfortunate. The US needs to forget acting like it owes world opinion a favour and instead stick up for what it stands for because people seem to have forgotten what that is and IMO thats the root of the problem. I actually share Obamas ideological stand on this front.

All this talk of the UN security council blah blah blah, the UN is an ineffective tool and is a complete and utter 21st century joke establishment. When was the last time the UN effectively handled an international crisis? The Bush administration plays the same card everytime "we are working with our allies through the UN...".

The US still is the leading economic and military power, it needs to show strength in such situations and stop hiding behind the UN. It needs to act objectively, warn the Georgians too, they aren't entirely innocent in this conflict.

Damn! That is a bold statement, IMHO. I get the democratic tie and the reality that Georgia has been a great alley, after committing 3,000 plus troops to Iraq.

Actually, it has nothing to do with Bush being a 'lame duck' president and nothing to do with any sort of luck. It has everything to do with the fact that Russia has 16000+ nuclear weapons. Bottom line.

I'm so tired of beating this drum I'm going to issue an ultimatum myself.

I DARE the US to attack Russian troops directly and outside of it's proxy fighter CIA (And other vehicles)

There ya' have it. Don't like it? Tough. Russia is a nuclear power and that's that. Nothing you, me or any NWO interest is going to do about it except pit the two against each other so that there is mutual destruction, and that plan is well under way.

Russia should have said this:

"Choose us or choose the NWO"

That's what it boils down to whether you believe it or not.

BTW, I'm really tired of this misinformation going around that Russia started this. THEY DIDN'T. Georgia attacked the South Osettians FIRST. (Goaded by the CIA and Israeli intelligence apparatus)

Get it straight. Has Russia 're' annexed Georgia or do they intend to?

NO

By God I love my country but America is a pawn in a great supernational scheme that has been under way for YEARS. We have been financing this scheme through the IRS and the gas pump. It is incredibly sad. Now, this NWO movement has run into 16000 nukes.. hmm what happens now? You guessed it..

This actually seems like a stupid choice if the U.S. were to pick Georgia over Russia, if this government was smart they would side with the stronger and more effective military, but yet again I'm sure absent mindedness will prevail in this one.

This whole thing has me on major alert. Intend to keep gas in my tank on full and head to interior if it looks like nuclear exchange is imminent, not that I hold onto that as hope either.
Project Camelot has this on their news for Aug 11

In response to a list of questions we posed about the escalating situation in Georgia, our 7 July source immediately replied with these important insights:

The Rothschilds want America brought to its knees so that the North American Union, a pre-step to world governance, can proceed. This means anything that will contribute to that cause. The Rothschilds want to rule the world through their multiple corporate giants they own and manage worldwide, PERIOD. They care not about money when one owns everything.

People who talk about the money-grabbing powers do not understand what is going on. Control and Power is the game.

Now, this means America must be split apart in every possible way, through war, economy, stock markets, civil unrest, and the ideas of freedom given a new meaning: "Managed Freedom" - the beehive effect, and disguised socialism managed by dictatorial methods.

After painstakingly watching O'Reilly and Karl Rove go at it on FAUX News, I am almost certain that the powers that be want to go back to the cold war era and perhaps use the threat to stimulate the economies of each. It's good business for USA & Russia to be enemies.

Well first of all i dont buy into this NWO conspiracy lark, but i absolutely agree the Russians nuclear deterrant has everything to do with it. Let's not forget the military prowess of the States though, it has the edge over Russia should it be non-nuclear warfare.

What if we choose our own country first and let those idiots kill each other off over the next 50 years. Work on a hell of a missle shield and sit back and watch the world kill itself off. That would be good tv.
