Am I seriously the only one here who thinks this may not be the best thing for the country?

Really?

I'll re-post what I wrote here, discussing the same thing but also for the UK:

t's good news for everyone. Why are you so xenophobic? The strenghts of the UK and the US are made by our diversities. We come together, combine our strengths, and everyone wins. For an American or a Brit to have a problem with immigration is for them to have a problem with their own past. The Brits have had waves of immigrants washing over the channel, from the Normans who built what we know as Britain, to the waves of political immigrants who bought technology, art, literature, knowledge, food, culture. The same goes for the US - remember - America was founded by immigrants. The white American settlers are the same as the Norman settlers in the UK - they made the whole country.

Get a grip, stop being racist (which is EXACTLY what this is - prejudice based on race), see this for what it is - progress. We can only get stronger, as we have seen throughout history. I'm disgusted that some people can have such short memories, and then feel it perfectly OK to spout their vitriolic hatred, which is exactly what this is, in a public forum, without even knowing what they're doing.

I thought this was the 21st century, not the 11th.

I'm sure all the racists agree with you. They also discriminate against people of other races.

There are racists of other races that can't wait to become the majority. There are probably more racist blacks and Hispanics than whites and they can get away with it. You're in Germany so you'll see how Europe is going to destroy itself with 3rd world immigrants. The U.S. will be a 3rd world country in the future.

I doubt in 40 years the world will still be using the terms "3rd world" to denote underdeveloped. And what makes a 3rd world nation? The term is too simplistic and incompasing for nowadays then when it was coined in the 50s. That off topic a bit, anyhow, the US will not go from a fully industrialized nation to a developing nation any time soon, even with a change in demographics (which will happen gradually). You wan't to see the United States 40 years from now? Look at California today.

This was discussed already at length on another thread. There are many flaws in the article. In college, I was told Americans would all be speaking Spanish by now. That was many years ago. People underestimate how much America changes the people who move to America.

Considering the birth rates and immigration of hispanics, they are posed to double their current percentage of the population. Their following of Roman Catholicism leads them to forego the use of any birth control and continually pop out kids like its going out of style.

Given the current rates of crime, high school dropouts, and poverty level standards of living, more minorities can only hurt the U.S., not help.

It has nothing to do with race, for I also believe whites, or any other race from 3rd world nations should be barred from entering the U.S.

That's the stereo type. The truth is the Hispanic birth rate is declining particularly among the middle and upper class. Among poor hispanics a large family most of the time means three children. The Catholic church does allow the natural method of birth control. Judging by the decreasing fertility rate of Catholics, it must be working.

I am a strong proponent of vouchers and school choice. Hispanics are not the only ones who are not thriving in our public schools. Interestingly Hispanics who graduate from Catholic schools are well educated.

If it were up to me white South Africans and many other people of different races and creeds would be given amnesty. I don't believe you are a racist. If we are not careful ,we will end up with the worst of both Mexican and American cultures. If on the other hand we work with the strengths and talents of all our citizens Hispanic and non Hispanic alike we will end up with an even better country.

The "eventually everyone will be beige" theory is an oldie but goodie.

As to your title, I've always known that Karma is a patient lover.

We must also take into account the damage done to the nation by a higher population. Population forecasts put the U.S. population at 400 million by 2050. Thats a 33% increase (100 million people) in just 50 years.

The infrastructure, social services, and our standard of living simply cannot take that kind of hit without being damaged.

Lets be realistic here and not sugar coat anything. Hispanics tend to be pro hispanic first, and Americans second, as evidenced by the illegal immigrant protests over the past few years.

More hispanics will result in what? More hispanics in positions of power with the ability to change policy (aka amnesty and a more open immigration policy). Less people is whats needed here, not more.

Considering the school dropout rates of blacks and hispanics are much higher than that of whites, (Source) we will be left with a larger number of uneducated, unskilled people who will undoubtedly be reliant upon social services in some form or another. Who do you think will be covering that cost?

uh.. I noticed you were in texas as well. Must be living in one of the few redneck towns cuz where I am at, most ppl know quite a bit of spanish. My ex had to learn it to move up in his job and it shocks me how fluent he is in speaking it considering he picked it up from "life" rather than taking courses.

I can understand quite a bit of it bc the mexicans are running rampant around here. I didn't even qualify for jobs that I once qualified a few years back bc I can't speak spanish.

And does press #1 for english ring any bells?? Warnings, informative signs, etc all are translated into spanish automatically. At least here in tx, speaking spanish is quite the norm and becoming a requirement for quite a few jobs.

Are you Hispanic? I wonder what your ex sounds like to someone who speaks Latin American Spanish as a first language. Almost everyone in Texas knows some Spanish even if it is just derogatory Spanish words. Even George Bush claims to know Spanish to me he sounds just as bad in Spanish as he does in English.

Thank the gods I am not. White as they come actually. The ex is as well and he obviously speaks it well enough to continue to be moved up in his job (his boss is partially mexican.. hispanic.. whichever term makes you feel more comfortable although I have other descriptives I prefer using ~ will refrain for site purposes
).

The point is in just the last few years, speaking spanish here is becoming more the requirement than just for *snips* and grins.

I don't really guess he has all that much of a problem considering he can communicate with them just fine using their language, but they can't communicate with him using english. And he had to learn their language to move up, but they don't have to learn english to move up..... many have been promoted w/out knowing more than "hi" and "goodbye" in english.

I try to use Hispanic or Latino. Most of the Hispanics in my area of town are Mexican but still there are many people from other latin American countries that do like being called Mexican. I would not consider this area to be a red neck area. This not a good area for low skilled people to live. New Mexico is way more Hispanic than Texas and it is very cultured. San Antonio is also very Hispanic. How Hispanic children and the children of the poor are educated in Texas will need to change.

Just great, Scorched Earth is 100% right, and by all means label me a "racist" the most overly used and ridiculous term aimed to eliminate diversity of questions on diversity.

I'd love to continue, but the PC and liberal mob will "lynch" me, kind of ironic now isnt it?

To those that say this is a good thing, what would you think about all the whites of the world moving to Africa and becoming the majority there, and destroying the African culture by replacing it with their own?

It's so funny how you can talk down about a certain race and act so superior when you seem to be the poorest representation of white people. It shouldn't come as a surprise that mexicans run rampant in texas when Texas did belong to Mexico at one time. It's not the increase in population of Mexicans or hispanics that is gonna be a problem, it's the current portion of ignorants such as yourself and all the other racists on this thread that make the US bite arse today. While you might want to consider taking a course in basic spanish, you should seriously think about signing up for Humanity 101 as well.

umm...this has already been done...United States took over Texas, California, nevada, new Mexico, Arizona, Utah, some of Colorado, some of Wyoming...probably like 50% of Mexico's land. I guess karma can be a *****!!
