Klein: Neocons think 'it's raining Nazis' in Georgia

rawstory.com

America's most recognized neoconservative thinkers are calling for confrontation with Moscow.

"The mood is reminiscent of Germany after World War I

Comparing the Russian invasion of Georgia to the beginnings of World War II.

William Kristol, also a co-founder of Project for the New American Century and publisher of National Review, believes the US owes Georgia a 'serious effort' in defense of its sovereignty.

All these recent headlines seem to point to increased conflict with Russia. I heard on the radio last night that there are rumors that Russia is already on the outskirts of the Georgian capital.

Russia just called an end to it. I am curious what the neocons think now? I have my doubts about the conflict being over just yet though.

God this guy is a piece of shiat. I hate him so much... he's a freaking nutjob... and he was in PNAC... just like Cheney and McCain.... which gives you a hint on the state of mind of the Bush administration and the McCain camp... they are not affraid of WW3 and nuclear war... they have underground bunkers... we don't.

some ppl really want the WW3 , dont they? Georgia was no sait too and they fight in Caucaz for more than 100 years. There is no way to actually understand who is right in that region, simply too complicated. Why would US involve in this?

It's bigger than the 'neocons' though. And I think the atmosphere is more along the lines of Europe in 1938.

There is a definite air of 1938 with the Munich Agreement allowing Hitler to annex a region of a free nation.

If Russia is allowed to invade and occupy without any challenge it sets a truly dangerous precedent.

Next on the list is the Ukraine, and then the Baltic States. Where do we draw the line? Poland?

I don't believe this cessation will last.

oh do shut up

the USA invaded a sovereign nation without an legal precedent for a resource grab , and again they will do the same with Iran , and eventually Saudi Arabia.

Wow! Way to talk to someone else, not least of all a mod
You could have very easily put your point across much better with some politeness you know?

And are you saying this kind of thing should be allowed to continue to happen around the world without anyone stopping it on the sole reason that someone else did it before? When does someone take the high ground and say enough is enough?

Whaaa.... did a time portal just open up?? Nerdling..

OMG it's true!! The large hadron collider ripped a hole in time and Nerdlng stepped through. And he's posting about 1938...

I don't think Russia is starting any invasions anytime soon though. If anything, they were manipulated into responding to Georgia from what I can tell.

Hey guys, as fun as ripping on a mod is... You ussaly only make a fool of yourself... Trust me... don't think emotional, think long-term and logical...

Georgia isn't inocent, but in my opinoin, Russia looks worse at this point, and only was looking worse by the hour...

When the terms come down, we will see how this goes... it premature to say that this is over...

But its reasonable to say that it has peeked in this day... good night...

the USA started this by invading Iraq , so quite frankly who are they to pretend to say what can can`t happen - if bush et al wants to press the red button , i hope you have a stock of food allready in

Funny how the only Democratic countries U.S. anti-neocons favor for support are those who hate America.

Maybe Russia wouldn't hate you if you weren't trying to prop up Puppet leaders on it's doorstep?

Russia contemplates moving tactical bombers into Cuba and every Republican has a sh*t-fit, but America backing the Georgians in open, unjustified hostilities against the Russians & Ossetians? That's totally acceptable.

Hypocrisy seems to be the motto of the Neo-Con movement.

As for this article...

Well the co-founder of the PNAC calling for military action against ANOTHER country?

How could anyone be surprised?
The PNAC are arch-criminals of the highest order. They had 9/11, Iraq, Afghanistan, the War on Terror mapped out since 1999; they found a suitable sock puppet to prop up in the White House, they backed him and they stole the election.
Bush has been taking orders ever since. Hell half of the PNAC are members of his administration.
It's much easier to hold up a Bank when the manager works for you after all.

Comparing Russia to the Nazis had me in stitches...

So the country who started this conflict to begin with and who indiscriminately killed thousands of civilians in a bid to hold onto a nation with an iron-fisted grip who don't want to be a part of them is completely rational.

Russia defending it's territorial integrity and military forces against unprovoked attacks is Nazi-like however.

Pssst.. Hey Kristol! It's the other way around... Idiot.

Georgia is america's cuba... if they become member of NATO, Russia will have the right to install missiles in Cuba. I mean, you can't get closer to Russia than that.

And the US would have an advantage, they would have most of the western russian border as their front while Russia would only have Cuba as their base... much easier to wipe out that 5 countries.

NATO want Russia down. Russia knows this and try everything to avoid confrontation... but the US continue to push... someday Russia will have to say to NATO to back off or it's nuclear war.

Soon Ukraine will be in NATO, maybe even Georgia. You add most of Europe and the agressive stance of NATO and you see how they perceived those nutjobs in the White House as a threat.

So basically, Nerdling, you're a neo-con... comparing today to 1938... as the neocons do.

Wow, such love and tollerance.........perhaps there is a reason YOU don't have a bunker to hide in.................Russian planes should have been shot down the instant they went into Georgia. They were counting on people lke this to get away with this aggression. And it worked............Putin will become bolder and more aggressive..........

I'm with Harlequin on this I'm afraid.

NATO got invoved in Kosovo, despite Russian protestations to the contrary, in order to prevent ethnic cleansing. Russia has been involved in South Ossetia ostensibly to prevent the same thing.

The COW invaded a sovereign state in Iraq, and imposed regime change on the country, and yet in interviews this week Bush has been condeming the Russians for supposedly seeking regime change in Georgia.

And lets not forget who started this - the Georgians did. If you go and smack a grizzly bear on the nose you are going to get mauled.

To the Russians, the Georgian action was state sponsored terrorism, and their peacekeeping troops were killed during it. They were bound to react with enough force to render the Georgian military ineffective and also to send a clear message not to mess with them.

Western protestations at Russias intervention here are a clear case of "do as I say, not do as I do"

Yes, the rumours of my death have been fabulously exaggerated.

On a more serious note, no, it's not very smart to speak to anyone on ATS like that. You should do your best to put across your points and tolerate the opinions of others even though you may not agree.

Speaking on this situation alone, the West can not afford to allow Russia to further press into Georgia. If allowed to go unchecked into a nation that is an ally of the west then what kind of a signal does that send to our other allies? What's next? The Ukraine? Will we stop them when they act to protect the twelve million ethnic russians in the Ukraine?

Will we give up the Baltic republics? Countries perfectly happy with democracy, flourishing under freedom but still eyed by the Russians.

Putin is not a man you appease.

Oh, and if you want to talk about Kosovo, remember that the Russians airdropped a brigade into Pristina airport to face off NATO.

So when russia passes out "citizenship" to people in a neighboring country, then says they need to be rescued, and just happens to be the dominate "peacekeeping" force in the area, gets "pushed" by the country to stop the BS. Thats Ok for russia to kill anything that moves?

This is so Hitler and 1938..........Georgia's mistake was thinking her allies who help protect her...........The instant russia attacked, B2's should have bombed Moscow...................the new russia/iran alliance will try to take over the planet..........

Sorry, but the neocons are ruthless warmongers scumbags. They spouted the propaganda for Iraq, Iran, Georgia, the bogus al-qaeda, the bogus WMDs, all the Bush administration lies and the police state. Those anti-freedom goons should go to jail for their help in war crimes committed by the Bush administration. I have only hate for warmongerers and people who love torture like the Bush administration does. And a PNAC member who in PNAC call for the use of race-specific weapons? And a new Pearl Harbor? And the overthrow of over 5 countries? PNAC is the modern Mein Kampf.

Georgia shouldn't have been shelling South Ossetia in the first place. Most people agree that Georgia started the whole thing... put the russians aren't innocent either. And Putin isn't bold, NATO has been bold for over 15 years now since they try to rule the world. The Russian reaction is normal and they warned the west to stop their BS or they would act.
