Humpback whales are making a comeback more than 40 years after a ban on commercial hunting was brought in to save them from extinction.

Marine biologists estimate that the number of humpbacks worldwide may have grown to more than 40,000 adults and about 15,000 juveniles, following the ban that began in the 1960s. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has revised its classification of the whales as "vulnerable" to "of least concern" on its latest annual list of endangered animals.

This makes me wonder about how much of the enviromentalist fearmongering is actually true, because if we can have a top of the pyramid marine predator thriving again how could the whole marine ecosystem be in imminent collapse, as is so often reported?

Note that I'm not saying things are good, we do have a toxic civilization and an enviromental crisis, just that we need to look at the positives so we actually know what's going on and focus on the real problems, which imo are corporate more than individual.
