This might be a very short thread...

I was wondering what the others thought of the idea of a privately sponsored and built probe being sent to Mars to help clear up, once-and-for-all, what is really up there!

Perhaps with the bulf of the aid coming from a large initial sponsor/figure head such as Richard Branson, then with contributions from the mass of interested parties - such as myself, who want to see some real disclosure.

Maybe a childish fantasy? But a good discussion point, I'd like to think

I'm sure if we can get the worlds' richest people together, it could be possible... but don't you need permission from the government to conduct such experiments?

I'm not sure of the legal logisitics. But can any one country lay claim to ownership of space/planets?

I suppose not but hey they can invent a law when they feel like it so that's a bit saddening, anyway it would be quite hard.

You'll need to find experts at a lot of fields, astronauts, scientists, engineers, the list goes on, and that could take a while.

I really doubt that this would happen I dont think that the US would allow a private person or organization to do this, I would be cool where can I sign up?

Who says the US has to have a say in it?

A private island that is a self declared independent country could be the site of construction and launch base. It would require a great deal of money but if the desire was strong enough I believe it could be pulled off.

I read a few months ago, I think it was Yahoo, was offering a large sum of money to a private group if they were able to land a craft on the moon by 200?.

So why not Mars?

Anything is possible with the financial backing.

Just think about how many people on this planet have the desire to see some kind of independant conclusion about these issues! I think once the momentum gathered then all of the logisitics, such as money, engineering experts and the like, would just fall into place. It would just take that initial 'push' to start the ball rolling...

Anyone have Richard Branson's private email address??

Why would you build a 20 billion dollar probe to go all the way to Mars to find information as you can get it here ?

If you want to find out if Nasa is covering up you need acces to the original files. As they use radiowaves to communicate all you have to do is intercept that signal and you have your answers. I really think it is possible but I have no idea how..
