Are you mindlessly believing the media reports that Russia is the big bad guy in this new conflict?

Perhaps you should consider the facts.....

-When the USSR originally disbanded, South Ossetia and Abkhasia voted to stay with Russia, not Georgia. The voter turnout was around 95% and about 99% of those voters elected to stay with Russia.

-In South Ossetia and Abkhazia, Russian troops are very popular. They are seen as protectors. In fact, Vladimir Putin's picture is more widely displayed than that of the South Ossetian's own president.

-Back in 1992, the Western world backed Eduard Shevardnadze's attempts to reassert Georgia's control over South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Georgia failed in that attempt, and in the process they killed many people in South Ossetia and Abkhazia and left them very bitter.

-On Thursday night and into Friday morning, Georgia was the first one to attack. They killed Russian peacemakers and purposely targeted civilians in South Ossetia.

-Contrary to Western media reports, Russian peacekeepers in South Ossetia report that Georgian forces remain in the area, and are shelling apartment blocks in the capital of South Ossetia.

-Vladimir Putin said this yesterday about Georgia's actions : "This is full-scale genocide... They have completely lost their minds."

So who is the "bad guy" here?

Once you learn the facts about this war, it does not seem as clear as we have been told by the media:

I dont know if anyone thinks Russia is the bad guy. I dont even think the US thinks that. I just think most folks think Russia is using disproportionate force.

Just like Israel does against the Palestinians right? Funny how folks will say that but nothing about it in this case.

What a load of crap this 'disappropriate force' line is.

If you send in troops anywhere, no matter who you are, you make sure that you can do the job quickly and efficiently as possible. You go in with an advantage not a disadvantage. Any military commander knows that.

I seem to recall that the Gulf War 1 and 2 alliance was a disappropriate force ..... no-one complained then.

Well like they just said, any troop out there with an E3 ranking or higher knows that how Russia responded wasnt something that was done on a moments notcie. This was planned. You dont mobiklize the amount of troops, the airstrikes, the equipment that moved into position unless this was planned.

Now Russia may have been expecting Georgia to attack so they were ready and waiting with a crushing response. However Russia cant just take over the country...that would be disproportionate.

Just like when Israel invades Gaza or the West Bank after the Palestinians fire missiles at them.

On INTERNAIONAL Law, Georgia was operating in their OWN terroitory...

South Ossetia and Ackabazia are NOT COUNTRIES... Just because they want to be...

Georgia was responding to something WITHIN their own country...

Russia, by entering this region, ENTERED GEORGIAN TERRORITRY...

That a plain and simple fact... Russia has invaded Georgia, in response to Georgia killing thier own citizens...

The truth is, both sides are SPEWING propaganda out... the Russians are doing it better, and faster... The American Media is worthless. and i havent seen 1 sec of thier coverage...

Just because a place fancies themself a country, doesnt mean they are...

Mean and my buddies can say, "We Declare this Block, The New Republic, set our own curencry, have a milita, elect a president, and EVERYTHING else we want... But we arent realy a country... Even if we convinced Cannada to think so...

South Ossetia IS NOT a country... Russia HAS invaded Georgia...

Neither are exactly "good guys" or "bad guys" - the world just isn't that simple.

Russia isn't doing anything the US hasn't done recently, however...

I am hardly a fan of Mother Russia, but this is one time I think the US media isn't telling the whole story.

What caught my eye was the original reports of "peacekeepers" being over ran. You can put any spin on the nationality of the peacekeeper, but they are there just for observing with very limited defensive weapons available for the most part.

In my mind, I feel Putin, and Russia in general, is in a funk over several things about their military the last few years and here is finally a "war" they can win in short order and the Russian military will be proud of itself again. Let's just consider this their Desert Storm.
