Cuba backs Cold War ally Russia on Georgia actions

www.alertnet.org

HAVANA, Aug 10 (Reuters) - Cuba sided with its old Cold War ally Russia on Sunday when President Raul Castro issued an official statement supporting Russia's military actions in Georgia's breakaway enclave of South Ossetia.

I dont know if things will spiral out of control or if South Ossetia is a Sudetenland. I fear though if things do somehow manage to spiral out of control it will involve Russian allies like Cuba and Venezuela.

Russia has reportedly threatened in the last month to place bombers in Cuba and Venezuela.

I hope plans are being drawn up by the Pentagon to deal with Cuba and Venezuela in the event we have to deal with Russia in Eastern Europe.

Cuba isn't going to invade America

I'd be worried if Chavez started swinging the sword and putting his troops on alert. The war isn't going to spread into the Americas.

No the war wouldnt spread here.

The only thing youd see of the war in America is nuclear explosions lol.

They arent flying those bombers for nothing, and they are most likely as of now (if not soon) will be fitted with nukes. X-55 stealth nuclear cruise missles with optical radar gps etc etc... They can duck.

Lets keep saying nothings gonna happen till the cows come home.

I dont think Cuba would invade America either, but both Cuba and Venezuela can be used as staging areas for Russian aircraft and troops. Cuba could invade Gitmo and Venezuela could threaten Colombia.

Cuba couldn't invade the United States even if they want to.

The US might have to deal with a lot of hot air from Chavez and Castro, but I really doubt the Russians will try anything. They would completely blow the idea that Georgia is in Russia's 'back yard' out of the water, since Cuba is in the US's 'back yard'.

I never said Cuba could invade the US. I said Gitmo, which is a military base we have in Cuba.

I dont think anything will happen unless everything falls apart over there, e.g. Ukraine gets involved somehow and then it will be like Dominos. Eastern europe would turn into an inferno.

Only after everything hits the fan over there would it effect things over here.

It was only a matter of time before Cuba backed Russia, but I doubt any kind of Russian weaponry the US doesn’t want in Cuba will be in Cuba. Cuba’s citizens are increasingly fed up. I doubt if anything went down between the US and Cuba that the people would even back Cuba. They are walking a very fine line.
