"1. A major flu pandemic will arise from Indonesia, but it won't be the HPAI H5N1 subtype ("bird flu"). Instead it will be an antigenic shift, by
re-assortment of bird flu with the prevalent swine flu subtype H3N2, creating a new H3N1 hybrid. This hybrid flu virus will have an intermediate-high
mortality rate, and will be resistance to the standard antivirals amantidine and rimantidine. The 'Jakartan' Flu of 2008 will be the first major
pandemic in 40 years and the worst in 90 years (i.e.; since the 1918 Spanish Flu). Using the W.H.O. pandemic severity index, this new flu pandemic
will ultimately be rated as a category 3 or 4, and will cause between 5 and 20 million deaths worldwide.
2. There will be 3 'great' quakes (earthquakes with M ≥ 8.0) in 2008. These will be located in Alaska, Turkey, and northern India, with the latter
being the deadliest quake of the year. There will be no major tsunamis (i.e.; none causing ≥ 100 fatalies) for the entire year.
3. Next November will bring a major break in the unsolved case of Tara Grinstead - a history teacher and local beauty queen who has been missing since
10/24/05. Her body will be found in a previously searched area almost directly east of her hometown Ocilla GA, in neighboring Coffee County near the
town of Douglas GA.
4. There will be a runway collision of two commercial airliners at a busy U.S. airport, with many casualties.
5. Border tensions between Pakistan and India will escalate and spark a brief artillery exchange across the Kashmiri 'Line of Control' that
separates the two countries, but it won't lead to a new Indo-Pakistan war.
6. Unexplained stationary lights will be seen hovering over a major U.S. city for approximately 30 minutes. There will be thousands of witnesses to
this major UFO event. These mysterious lights will be dismissed and seemingly ignored by government authorities, but they will eventually become as
well-known as the 'Phoenix Lights' of 1997.
7. The Mideast Peace Conference will be an abject failure, and civil war will resume in Lebanon soon thereafter.
8. There will be severe flooding in Germany; the worst there since 2003.
9. The U.S. Supreme Court will rule that waterboarding is torture and therefore illegal, but will not make it's ruling retroactive to 2002.
10. Zimbabwe's President Mugabe will lose his re-election bid (good riddance!)
11. Fidel Castro (who originated the plot to kill JFK) will finally kick the bucket (good riddance!!).
12. Al-Qaeda will attack the U.S. Embassy in Baku, Azerbaijan during the latter half of 2008. U.S.-operated oil facilities in Azerbaijan may also be
targeted in the attack.
13. An al-Qaeda truck bomb will breach the perimeter of Camp Lemonier in Djibouti, causing several casualties among U.S. troops stationed there.
14. Al-Qaeda will cripple a major Saudi oil facility, most likely by launching a marine attack upon the Ras Tanura terminal on Sea Island. There will
be significant economic repercussions worldwide.
15. There will definitely be no al-Qaeda attack within the U.S. before 08/08, and probably no terrorist attack on U.S. soil (not including U.S.
embassies abroad) by the end of 2008. In any event, the U.S. presidential election will not be postponed or cancelled, even if a terrorist attack does
occur here during the last weeks of the campaign.
16. Democrats will nominate Hillary Clinton, who will pick Barack Obama as her running mate. Republicans will nominate Mitt Romney, who will pick Mike
Huckabee as his running mate. Michael Bloomberg will enter the race as an independent, and will pick Chuck Hagel as his running mate. Election results
will be Clinton-Obama (41%), Romney-Huckabee (36%), Bloomberg-Hagel (22%), and other candidates (1%).
17. In the absence of any political progress or reconciliation among Iraqi religious factions, the U.S. will announce a new policy to redeploy it's
troops outside of major Iraqi cities. Our soldiers will remain stationed in that God-forsaken country, but they will be tasked with defending Iraqi
borders and training indigenous security forces.
18. There will be a paroxysmal-colossal eruption (VEI of 5 or 6) of an Indonesian volcano; probably at Mt. Kelud in Java, or possibly at Mt. Kerinci
in Sumatra. It will be the largest volcanic eruption in that archipelago since Krakatoa in 1883.
19. Pakistan's President Musharraf will be betrayed by a member of his security detail and assassinated by a terrorist bomb blast. Army Chief General
Ashfaq Kiyani will declare martial law and appoint himself as Pakistan's next president.
20. President Bush will completely disregard the December N.I.E. declaration that Iran discontinued it's nuclear weaponization program, and will
order an extensive bombing campaign of Iranian nuclear facilities. He will do so without congressional approval (prompting a motion for his
impeachment). The new Big-BLU bunker busters (15-ton non-fissile radiological bombs) will be used on Iran's most reinforced sites; these will be
dropped by specially modified B2 bombers that will be pre-positioned on the British-owned islands of Diago Garcia.
21. President Bush will grant a full pardon to his former aide (and former V.P. chief of staff) Lewis 'Scooter' Libby. As political cover for this
disgraceful act, he will also pardon former border agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean. These pardons will be announced during GWB's last few days
in office, so it may happen in the first week of 2009."
