How can existance itself prove there is a god? How is the universe a god? People do not worship the universe. It did not create us, it is simply the container for known matter.

I think what your getting at is that you don't want to believe that you will cease to exist when you die. You want to think that you will go on and continue to learn and experience.

Now I cannot prove that that will or will not happen, but I will not form an opinion on faith and faith alone. It seems too idiotic.

I may come up with some weird theories now and then, but that does not mean they are true. It means they are theories, and will always be theories.

I fear for the future of mankind if everyone thinks they are right. I truly fear...

I agree with Winston. When we die, that's it - lights out. I take great comfort in that belief.

Why do you take great comfort in that belief? Is it because if you were wrong and the christians were right then you would on your merry way to hell? So then you believe that it is naught but a silly fable of another day? Personally i believe that there is a hell and that the christians are right. However i just dont give a flying #. It seems that you cling to your belief like it grants you security. I dont see how- Agent 47-

Another thousand years and they'll be no relifion. Science would have unravelled the mysteries that religions love to use to prove there is a god.
FREEMASON, your lack of articulation is incredible. A 10 year old kid could explain himself better and probably have something of more substance to add.

Universe? Big Bang. Us? Evolution. Afterlife? No proof. Christians right? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Why? they a new religon, they only 2000 years old! Jews older than that. Egypt, Greek, Roman, they all older, all before(some by thousands of years) christianity. So why is christianity right? Because they killed the most amount of people in shortest amount of time? Why freemason? Also, witchcraft and druidism both around 30-35 thousand years old. They the oldest. So wouldn't that make them the right ones since they were there first? Of course, christianity wiped both out, druids completely, witches until 1950 when they started coming back under a new name as to keep their heads attached.

Freemason, why is an atheist wrong? Because they ask for facts not blind faith? Becuase they turn to science? Because they didn't wage war on everyone else? Why atheist wrong and christians right?

And I admit religon forum is a wee bit off.(I am included) but I haven't seen any Buddists on their making posts like You wrong, I'm right, go to hell. Or a hindu, or a jew, or witch, druid(both new age since originals killed off), Raelians(sp?), or any others. It more of a battle between christians and everyone else.(truth, fm, jm vs me, and almost everyone else((especially when it somes to truth)) who posts there) And I am not perfect, I have made some bad posts or subjects. A couple in anger at a certain person, some just in hatred for what the Catholic church gets away with.

But some people do good, and others do bad. No matter what the subject is.

Many will be seduced(Matt.24:23-26,compare with (Mark13:6)and many will be deceived(Matt.24:10).And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold (Matt.24:12)When the Son of man cometh, shall He find faith on earth?(Luke 18:8)
I n the first epistle to Timothy, the Apostle Paul writes:Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils(1Tim.4:1)
In his second Epistle to Timothy, he offers a gloomy portrait of mankinds religious and moral condition:In the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, truce breakers, false acusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, high minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof(11Tim.3:1-5)
The holy Apostle Jude witnesses to the agreement of all the apostles on this point: Remember the words which were spoken of before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; How they told you there should be mockers in the last days, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. These be they who seperate themselves, sensual, not having the spirit(Jude17-19)

Yes.

We are the results of a spectacularly complex reaction of a multitude of chemicals. Our intelligence and awareness-of-self arises from these complex chemical reactions of life.

When these reactions cease, our awareness-of-self also ceases. If what defines our awareness should stop, due to the cessation of the chemical reactions, we are finished. There is nothing else.

Winston if you're right,

Then how is it possible for people to see things happen while they're clinically dead. See things and listen to conversations that are in different hospital rooms than they are. See a tennis shoe that is on the roof of the hospital. All of which are later verified.

This is some of the research done in NDE's

It is a person's right to choose if they want to believe in a God. The best someone can do is to (kindly) show them their options. Personally, I believe that there is a God. However, I don't conform to any single religion. I find that the denominations of different religions tend to be prejudice towards others. I just keep an open mind and try to do what I believe is right.

i see this thread was last added to some time ago but feel it a duty to add,
that in the beginings of mans journey into science RELIGION furiusly opposed & slaughtered many of those who dabbled in it, & also the poor herbalists/spiritaul healers & Gian's that were branded a witch or a demon & quickly burned alive!

Now these days MILLIONS of people world wide seek the help & guidance of such people & not in deniance of any or all gods but just for that 'help & guidance'.

i consider myself a non-beliver & if the day of reckoning comes & the streets do indeed run red with the blood of non-believers, then fine, il hopefully be an old fart by then & it is of course my own fault for having no faith in thee all powerful being you hypocrites call god, i do however believe in the kindness of people & their good spirit i think everyone has, 'yes i believe in ghosts & spirits' our shadows are cast by the sun so i guess there could be a shadow cast by the dark that lives on when we die(dumb? let me know, i cant remember how i got to thinking it)
& i also guess that with all the energy the human body contains that there must be some residual energy left over when we shut down & die this may as it has been suggested, become a higher being of some sort/or ghost, whatever the case i believe in those things but not god,

i dont know what was before the elements that made the big bang, mabye its an experiment by some race of inteligent beings & we & universe we see are all in some fancy experiment test chamber,
mabye we & the universe we see are microscopic & were in a test tube beside other experiments?
who knows realy, i would love to live for an infinity to see the ending of the universe when theres nothing again(if thats how it ends up), & wait around to see what happens, if it starts up again & see how.
we came to existence through germs we evovled from slime that slime developed more & more structures to its complexity untill today we are multi cell organisims thats why we share so much dna with everything else on this rock we call earth!

As for religions they have caused more wars than any other factors in mankinds history, science?, well i have yet to be told about a war faught in the battlefields over science.
this i have to say speaks louder than any religious nut job with his arms stretched open screaming praise the lord into a microphone in front of a stadium full of thousands of hypocrits shouting it back! so in the sense that religon causing wars & like the catholic religion being so DEMONIC & cruel id have to agree with the others & say that yes religion is evil.

Welcome to ATS.

This thread is three years old, and if you notice, its main respondants are banned.

If a thread's this old, you generally don't necropost it. There's a religion forum full of completely re-used but current arguments about the same thing though.

Hope to see more of you around.

There is nothig wrong with bringing up old threads but this (very) old thread is causing a glitch in our trashbin when new posts are added.
Because of this, this thread needs to be closed.

Thanks.
