This is sad. It shows how much compassion humans have for others. They would trample someone for a DVD!

Woman Crushed in rush at DVD sale

This part made me laugh, though. (I cant help it, it was funny!)

Paramedics called to the store found VanLester unconscious on top of a DVD player, surrounded by shoppers seemingly oblivious to her.

I can always count on you to have a good one, although usually sad. I know this is sad but I cant help but laugh.

Aww come on, you mean to say that none of you have stood in line and stampeded when stores open with toys for the kids?
Actually I haven't either, but it does amaze me how quickly we go from human to frenzied mammals just to get it first.

The day after Thanksgiving is traditionally the beginning of the Christmas season in the US.

Ah yes, the season of goodwill to all.

I've been to Walmart the day after Thanksgiving. Its worse than WWII. Those middle-aged housewives can be vicious when it comes to low-priced bargains.

That is a true indication of our mass consumerism at its finest.

This is exactly why I do ALL of my shopping online. You get way better prices and I dont have to deal with these crazy maniacs in the store.

damn!
reminds me of a simpsons episode. Lenny breaks the windows and opens the doors so they can all stampede in, and the marketing people for the 'hot' new toy that everyone wants says that they'll feel better if they see some trampling. Something to that effect.
it's ridiculous. *shakes head*
I try to avoid shopping on days I know will be busy. I've never seen anything like that which is described in the article though.

I hope the rush wasn't because the player came with a free copy of Crossroads.

consumerism is bad for your health, it's true.

At least they had the decency to let her keep the DVD player under her lifeless heap of a body. Score one for consumerism !!

EDIT:

ORANGE CITY, Fla. -- A woman reported "trampled" last Friday by Wal-Mart shoppers desperate for $29.87 DVD players has a long history of claiming injuries from Wal-Marts and other businesses where she worked or shopped.

I remember this story now. She's a habitual "slip & fall" expert.

Well, when you're a middle aged housewife whose life is merely taking care of the children and keeping the house in order, I'm sure you have to find some sort of excitement to feel like you're still living, even if that is racing other housewives to a sale.

Just out of curiousity, I wonder if she still purchased the DVD player after her injuries? lol, I would, especially if got trampled trying to get it.

If she faked this thing out, she must be a money hungry drama queen. Not surprising.

Geez...this reminds me something my sister told me when she worked at Wal-Mart. They were about to unveil all these items that were going on sale for Christmas, and all these women rushed up. One grabbed for a doll, and another hit her in the head with her purse. Haha...what a bunch of savages when become...

Only in America... that's like, what, 20? I think my favourite part has to be when Wal-Mart (or Asda's as we like to call it) offered to put a DVD player 'on hold' for her!! Omg, they didn't even give her one to apologise!
Although, saying this, the Harrod sales, those woman with their sharp nails, you'll never see a straight man (unless he's very, very foolish) on the opening day...
