...What kind of society have we developed where everytime the government does something we don't agree with, a call to arms is called? ...

That society, by Thomas Jefferson's estimation, was called FREE. Let me give you a direct quote from him. You know, the guy that wrote the Declaration of Independence. Here is the quote as people like to say it (which takes it COMPLETELY out of context). "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants." Everyone takes that to mean that we must go to war from time to time. While that is true, let's take the WHOLE quote in context, and see WHO we (as in the people) should be going to war AGAINST.

God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty.... And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure.

The entire quote, in context, lets you know exactly WHO it was he was talking about rebelling against.

So, to answer your question of "What kind of society have we developed where everytime the government does something we don't agree with, a call to arms is called? ", the answer would be: America as it was envisioned by the founding fathers

The thing is, people won't take up arms until they are the one's being punished. Until Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Bob down the street are having economic woes or are threatened by the fascist government/police, they will do nothing. This country is full with apathetic whimps that are a disgrace to what this country stood for.

"In Germany, the Nazis first came for the communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, but I didn't speak up because I was a protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak for me."

“Signs, signs, everywhere a sign….”

Did you hear how books by Hannity, O’Reilly, and Savage were found in the home of last week’s Knoxville church shooter? That was somebody sending a ‘message,’ letting these guy know they were being targeted. That’s why none of them mentioned it on their shows. They know what it means.

Similarly, this kid could be a ‘message’ sent to ol’ Georgie and his gang, letting them know they are now also targets. You have to wonder how the kid got “a CIA identification and a Geneva Convention ID, like ones given to contractors in Iraq.”

His father, ex-military, works for the Treasury Department as a GS-14, in ‘management and analysis.’

Say, isn’t the Secret Service, responsible for protecting the prez, a division of the Treasury?

Given the current prominence of beheadings in the news lately, one wonders if a ‘decapitating’ strike is being planned for this nation in the near future(the Oct ‘08 mentioned in the kid’s notes). Who is the “head” of our nation?
