This thread is a re-direction of another of my posts "Is This Real UFO Footage?" located at this link: www.abovetopsecret.com...

I started the original discussion because of a strange phenomenon I saw in the previously discussed video. Unfortunately, the thread turned into a fact finding discussion concerning Mike, who shot the video and an attempt at establishing his credibility. In my mind I believe that Mike has extensively explained his position on the nature of his video and all of the interesting events that happened to him following the filming of his video. I believe that this video is completely genuine and not a hoax of any kind. You can see all of the evidence and other opinions in the link that I have provided above.

With that said.... I would ask that any discussion concerning the validity of the video or the credibility of the person filming the video be directed to thread already in progress; link located above.

My intent for this thread is to discuss only the content of this video that mike has provided for us: www.youtube.com...

The larger light in this video is the point of interest to me in this video. I think we have adequately established that some of the other lights in this video are helicopters because of visible features such as strobes, flight patterns, and tail structures. The real mystery to me is the unnatural movement that happens at around 3 minutes and 40 seconds into this video. I am sure that a helicopter could not make abrupt movements like this. I have some of my own thoughts, but want to hear some other opinions. Thanks.

An abrupt movement at 3:40....I see no such movement. All I see is a smaller light fly under the larger light, the camera man zooms in on it and makes the camera jump around a bit and makes the larger light seem as if it has lifted itself up over the smaller light.

If this is what you mean by the abrupt movement....

It's just the nature of the video playing tricks on your eyes.

Say, that was quite interesting, wasn't it? Moved pretty dang fast if you ask me.

This is defiantly one of the theories that I have for what I see as "unnatural movement". I have watched this video several times and there is something so strange about how the helicopter appears to change direction as it comes near the large light. If it is an optical illusion of the zoom and shaking camera the proportional size and distant should remain constant, but I personally don't see this happen. I see distance increase as size remains relatively the same.

Out of curiosity...does this sort of stuff happen frequently where you live??? Because, if there's nothing strange at all about these lights, I'd love to see the footage you have that puts this to shame.

You must be quite accustomed to seeing much stranger things than anything that I have on video and I would love to know about it. Because where I come from...this isn't normal flight behavior.

I won't say that this is a UFO because I don't know...but, I do know this doesn't happen everyday, if so, people would have stuff like this posted everywhere.

And just so you know...this is not an attack against you whatsoever. If this is an everyday thing where you come from, then, it would definitely help to put a few questions to rest.

I did notice the light was in front of the tree at the beginning of the video. Could it be a reflection in the car?

Rule #1:
Don't shoot video from a moving car.
It's impossible to judge object's speed/vector.

Rule #2:
Learn to focus manually.

Rule #3:
Keep the camera steady, zoomed at a constant level so that a baseline of size/distance can be judged by viewers.

Why does every UFO video always violate these 3 basic rules?

You can't tell from the footage just how strange the movement is because the depth of field is not known and the fact it is a night shot. Where do you get you evidence that it did something strange? I see a possible aircraft like a helicopter moving and that is all.

Never heard of these basic rules before. Plus, there are no claims that this is a UFO video. As a matter of fact, we never once use the word UFO during the entire clip. If there is an anomaly, and it looks interesting, you take out a camera and film it. We chose to shoot from a moving car because we were trying to get closer to the object. In the end we pulled over to get the best footage that we could.

Most people don't stop to think of rules when their adrenaline is pumping. All you can do is do the best you can when something like this occurs. And when something like this happens to you, you will be able to consciously adhere to these rules...otherwise, we did the best that we could in the situation that we were in.

When you change the focal length of a zoom lens the perspective changes which will appear to effect the relationship between objects.

www.tamron.com...
I just think that at that point around 3.40 the space between the two lights appears to enlarge as the lens zooms in, this is normally more apparent when objects are at very different distances from each other such a helicopter in the sky and a light reflecting on a car windscreen *just an example, not an assumption*

The larger light also appears to be flaring more than the helicopter which again could suggest that the larger light is being projected onto a glass surface but that's far from a concrete theory.

I am sure that this video means something to the folks who took it (and possibly their friends that have heard their hurried and frantic first hand accounts) Unfortunately, it means nothing to those of us that are serious about this hobby, for obvious reasons already stated above. I wish I could say otherwise, but I can't.

I don't know why that turned bold btw and also on second thoughts I think it's only when different focal lengths are used with the SAME viewpoint that perspective changes, ie if you are fixed in the same place and zoom in the perspective stays the same, it's only if you move back and forth as you zoom to keep the subject the same size that the perspective is affected.

This could still be the case if the person with the camera and the object were moving towards each other as the camera was zoomed in but this is less conclusive.

Ok I just debunked myself

Well yes...its easy to be the scholar without any real experiences to draw from. We have the people who make history, and then there's the historians who have a vast knowledge of past events but never participated in any events of their own.

Those who can...do. Those who can't...teach.

As far as it being a hobby...there will never be any true science to this field. This isn't something that can be measured and since there are hoaxers, debunkers, and mis-information specialists, the truth will always be conveniently buried beneath a matrix of lies.

As far as this being a UFO, I have no idea, nor will I pretend to. That's the beauty of forums like these, you can forge your own opinion.

As much as I wanted to believe that there was "unnatural" movement in this video I have found evidence that proves otherwise. Let me first say that I do not believe that the large light in this video is any kind of normal aircraft. I personally think that Mike filmed something very remarkable and it is probably more than just a coincidence that there was military activity following the filming of this video. This thread was started because I thought I saw strange movement in the video and this is why I now believe otherwise.

Evidence: As Fatdeeman pointed out "When you change the focal length of a zoom lens the perspective changes which will appear to effect the relationship between objects". I did not have access to a computer program that could follow and manipulate pixels so I literally put a transparency on a monitor over the video. I would pause the frames and mark the paper. I found that the size proportion of the large light DID change relative to the distance between the lights. I believe that this would prove that the unnatural motion is a product of the camera zoom.

I have been surfing the Internet and have found a few other credible videos that are similar to Mikes. What is flying around out there?

The movement is EXTREMELY odd though. NOT a trick of the eye as you put it.

The way it moves under the other light would be very odd behaviour for a helicopter or some such.

And it would be quite impossible for the camera to be creating this movement, the distance an angle are as such that the parallax needed to create that kind of false motion simply couldn't occur.

Very interesting video. It could have been MANY things, untill that object at the 3.40 mark, did waht it did.

The way it DROPPED under that other light, that was quite a drop
anyone in that craft would have got those nasty butterflies yer get when yer ride a rollercoster. The drop looked around *20ft in 1 second*.

Cheers
