The NASA blurb states that the curve of the sun isn't smooth due to the way the image is processed but I just wondered why, if Mars is closer to the sun than ourselves, is the sun so small??

Please educate me!

Mars is 50 million miles further away from the sun than the earth is.

Mars is not closer to the sun that we are.....

Solar System

This may be why the sun looks so small. Also, i imagine that the image eliminates the corona of the sun so it would appear smaller still.

I always thought Mars was farther from the Sun than we are, not closer.
