I believe every life form needs a reason to exist and survive. That there is sentience in all living things. Whether this equates to a soul or not is
an entirely different question.
There seems to be this unfounded belief amongst certain crowds that aliens don't have souls, perhaps because they are clones or whatever. I think
such an assumption comes from religious conditioning whether the individual assuming as much is religious or not... it's latent because you must
remember theres a widely held belief system pumped into our brains as children that proclaims that only 'god' gives people souls.
Therefore I can only assume by religious standards that if a 'being' is cloned, then he is not created by 'god' and thus is devoid of a soul.
Quite obviously a bogus belief if ever there was one!
Humans are, by nature, egocentric. We've always put ourselves in the center of things. The Egytians thought Egypt was the center of the world. We
thought the sun rotated around the Earth. Many still think that humans are the only life forms in the Galaxy, no - make that the Universe. The whole
soul question is just an extension of that very same ignorance and arrogance IMHO.
For all we know rocks might have souls too!
I challenge any individual to disprove that hypothesis by any other means than faith (belief
systems) or superstition.
We have no way to quantify the truth of the matter either way. No tangible data exists. Everything is just a guess or 'feeling' based on our
personal bias.
