Something I have come to realize

Greetings ATS. I just opened my account today, and I am excited to be part of the ATS community. I just wanted to share with you today my thoughts on life and ets as I have come to know it.

I was born into a very conservative Christian household. As a child, my parents sheltered me from the negative outside influences and information. All my life, I simply took what they said as the truth. Likewise, this habit continued into my teen years and I was comfortable in my ignorance. I didn't question my existence. I simply followed the masses.

However, once I started college my paradigm changed. I began to question my faith. Did God really exist? There were so many unanswered questions in my life. Having always had an interest in astronomy, I began to wonder if there was truly no life out there. Earth was nothing special in the universe. We are just in a random galaxy in a random party of the universe. This did not support the that God viewed humanity as special. As more time passed, I began to realize the bigger picture. There was this nagging desire to learn the truth about life as we know it. I did not want to be a "sheep" anymore.

Now, I will be the first to say I have not had an encounter with an ET or UFO. I've always looked up to the stars hoping to catch a glimpse of something. However, I have come to believe we are not alone in the universe. I want to know more. I want to find the truth. I want to test the limits of my spirituality (which I do believe in even if there is no God). I joined ATS to help find answers to those questions that have bothered me for so long. I hope the community can help me to better understand myself and life. Thanks for your time.

Brian

Beautiful to see your on your own path to the truth. Nothing more refreshing then someone looking to do good works in an unfearful way.

I'd strongly sudgest the Urantia Book. It will seem too good to be true, but it is true.

Journy well!

Welcome to ATS!

I think you are on the right way, thinking for ourselves is always the best way, but we need to gather as many facts as we can.

ATS is a very good place to get some of those facts (and many things that are just imagination
) and to know people that can point you to more.

My "journey" was similar to yours, I was also born on a Christian home and I used to go to church with my grandmother, but I started thinking about why people thought that things should be like they said they were and I started to change my mind about some of those things.

I never thought much about life in other places on the universe because, although probable, the chances of meeting another life form from another star system or even galaxy are very slim. Life on other Solar system planets is a different thing, but with the information I have today I do not see it as likely that there are advanced life forms on any of them.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I look forward to hearing more opinions. One of the ways I have changed dramatically in my life is that I'm much more open minded to things. There is no sense in not being open to an unorthodox idea or thought if the evidence supports it.

What father if entrusted by their child would let that child fall into the darkness? Our God is the good father who wouldn't let you fall if you trust in the creator of all things. It's only when you let the darkness of confusion and fear and negitive things make you misstep along your path that you get lead astray.

I think you will find this an exciting, interesting, - and sometimes very irritating - place! There are many smart and really nice people in this forum, and you can learn a lot from them, like I have done.

Welcome to ATS!
