McCain Denies Misstatement On Iraq Surge

www.cbsnews.com

John McCain pushed back on Wednesday against Democratic criticism that he misstated when the troop buildup ordered by President Bush began, saying elements were put in place before Bush announced the strategy in early 2007.

Sure thing John...

I have to say this is obviously a desperate attempt on the part of
McSame to cover his misstatements (lie) with lies.

He takes a straight forward situation, "the surge" makes comments about its success and then to defend his misstatement (lie) he has to increase the complexity of the issue at hand "the surge" in order to validate his statements.

That would be like me saying somehting along the lines of "cancer is a positive sign of life" and then when my obvious mistake was pointed out me saying in my defense "cancer is uncontrolled growth of cells and what I was trying to say is 'growth' is a positive sign of life because there has to be life to have growth". I know this is a shaky comparison but I am not so good at making them up, and I think the point is evident.

McSame has to make the "surge" a more complex issue to defend himself by saying:

...what the Bush administration calls "the surge" was actually "made up of a number of components," some of which began before the president's order for more troops.

However when int he past did McSame refer to the 'surge' as anything BUT a increase in troop numbers? No where that I can find and I am willing to bet the farm that you wont find a good example of him talking about the surge as anything but an escalation wrapped in pretty packaging.

I bring this up and point it out for two reasons. First because War is suppose to be McSame's strong selling point and his inability to keep the facts straight on issues of our current war are a good reason to question this idea.

Secondly because it is a perfect example of how he is willing to lie, BOLD FACED, in order to save his raisin hiney.

Bottom line is McSame is just that, more of the same BS we have been force fed where President Bush "catapulted the propaganda" to get his 'point' across.

This is related to a thread I started yesterday, when the story broke.

McCain Makes False Claims On Iraq Timeline (VIDEO)

McCain is saying that the surge was successful, which it was and the troops should get credit, but part of the credit should also go to the Iraqis and the Anbar Awakening, where the Sunni militias started fighting against al Qaeda, which is part of what Obama is saying. McCain is trying to make the Surge look like military genius, when some of the credit should go to al Qaeda for killing a sheikh, which led to the Sunnis to turn against them.

After the assassination of a sheikh by Al Qaeda operatives, who hid the body for 3 days in order to prevent the family from burying it, Sheikh Sattar approached a U.S. commander at Camp Ramadi, asking for an alliance. Al Qaeda's attempt to intimidate the citizens of Ramadi by hiding the sheikh's body had the opposite effect as it empowered both the people and local tribes who once saw the U.S. as the problem.

The Al Anbar Awakening from the Perspective of a Marine

The timing of this event and the Surge was probably more coincidence than anything, but the end result was less violence, so both deserve credit.

Hal this is ralted to what you posted but my point and the point you are making are different.

I am showing McCain's obvious problem with the TRUTH. This thread is not about how successful the 'surge' was it is about McCain making clear misstatements, which became lies the moment he began lying to cover up his misstatements.

This is a critique of a man running for POTUS who has demonstrated that he has no issue with lying.

I have seen threads such as:

Obama the pathological liar. (Head of the Senate Banking Comittee)

that are trying to show Obama as being an untrust worthy candidate, threads that I believe have little value.

Then on the other hand you have statements such as this one on the part of McCain. A statement that clearly shows a man trying to manipulate the TRUTH.

While I would whole heartedly agree that this is not an issue that will make or break the mans campaign it is a clear sign of the worth of McCain's word.
