John Edwards Caught in Hotel with Mistress and Child

Vice Presidential candidate Sen. John Edwards was caught visiting his mistress and secret love child at 2:40 this morning in a Los Angeles hotel..

sigh... it is such a bummer. He would've been a great VP for Obama, but this has been lurking in his b.g. for over a year and apparently all of 'Washington" has known about it. It is kind of astonishing that he was able to get his married friend with three children to take the fall for him last year when this first started to surface.

Are you really using the national enquirer as a verified source for this?

I did a google search and found nothing.

Hey Guys -

I hate to say it, and this a true story, and after I tell it you can think about it. I was at a dinner years ago and was sitting next to a man who said he was in Legal Affairs at TNE. I said 'well you must spend all of your time fending off lawsuits' and he said 'no, we only print what we can prove in court.' I scoffed, he said 'while celebrities will often say they are suing us and may occasionally start the proceedings once they are expoased to our sources and evidence they back down and drop thier case'.

So I started to think about that, I live in L.A. and work in the industry so you get privy to certain things that is not known on Main St., anyway I watched over the years and 99% of the time that any celebrity said they were suing TNE it came to naught.

Also, all of the polictal blogs have been onbliquely discussing this since last Fall. It sucks, but I think it's true....

Edit to add one political blog that talks about all of this and mentions how it was grist for the mill in D.C. before TNE published thier first article alst year. It also lays it out with timeline and discrepencies etc. LINK

Why not the National Enquirer? Would you expect the drive-by media to report something this negative on a Democrat?

I didn't think the Breck Girl would stoop this low. Wife with cancer and all.

Actually many people would be surprised at how powerful the tabloid industry can be in America.

In the not too distant past a candidate was completely taken out of a huge political race due to scandalous photos in the supermarket tabloids that effectively ended his career.

500 points to whoever can name the candidate and publication first.

Well, RR, though we stand on the opposite side of the polical spectrum from each other, I think you have a point. Last year I saw a number of blogs and even something on Slate.com -- the person being interviewed by Slate was discussing how about how many in the MSM were sitting on a story about a presidential candidate and an affair, but no one wanted to be the one to publish it first.

It's all tawdry and sad, but it is a fact that you cannot run for office in this country with that kind of baggage. It will come out and you will lose and/or cripple the ticket.

The same source that claims that Laura Bush doesnt live in the WH, and is divorcing her psychotic husband.

I guess you can beleive it if you want.......

Hillary should be the Dem. on the ballot then John E. and Bill C. could have gone out together and hooked up. What is the part about the love child. I didnt understand that part???The MIstriss has a daughter who she takes to the Hotels with her while she is with Edwards????

Because the same media didn't make me watch hours of commentary on a scandal involving a hooker and Democratic politician in New York this year did they?

RRconservative got it.

Thewayiseeit, while the Herald did have a huge part in breaking the story, the real impact seemed to have been felt when the actual photographs were published, which was done by none other than the Enquirer.

I think people need to keep in mind that as comical as some of the stories are that are put forth by these tabloids, they do have armies of thousands of freelance photographers and reporters working for them and like them or not they can do a lot of damage to anyone with a "skeleton in the closet."

Drudge is not reporting anything, he merely linked to the story, that is repeating, not reporting.

No they are not the people who wrote "Bat Boy saved the White House from a Bigfoot army" READ THE THREAD. Link to the links.

They named names of who was where when doing what. If one of those facts is wrong it's off to the courts and out of millions they go. That is not the business they are in, esp. when they are giving this story away for free online. Like it or not -- he's caught.

As the MOD pointed out TNE brought down Gary Hart's campaign in '87.

This story is a bummer, no doubt. But Edwards ran for the Dem nom with a preganant g.f. living down the road in the hopes/hubris he would not be found out. He potentially risked the Dems takng office at a time when we need poltical change AND was still on the shortlist for the VP slot until he was caught in the basement of that hotel at 3 AM. He made himself fair game

I thought old john edwards was a pretty boy who showed to much vanity when before the camera. Guys like that can't keep it in the family for long. I would bet he and billary clanton had a thang going during the debates. Specialy when they were popping off with open mics at the beginning of there entry to the presidency debates.
